Here’s the casting call info for him: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1843230/board/thread/200527745?d=201498446&p=4#201498446
ONCE UPON A TIME, Ep. 203
Director: Milan Cheylov
Shoots: 8/8 – 8/20
Location: Vancouver[KNIGHT] Male, African-American, British accent, late 20s to early 30s. A sword-for-hire, he’s one of the most dangerous men in Fairy Tale Land, because he’s a man with nothing to lose. In his tragic past, he was torn from his true love and banished from the king and country he served. Though he says he now serves only himself and his fee, he can’t help but be guided by his sense of honor, the memory of the man he once was and his true nobility. Guest star.

In that version of the legendary King Arthur, Lancelot is a lonely swordsman who has nothing to live for — until he falls in love with Guinevere.
The other thought I had is of Kevin Costner’s character, Robin Hood, in the 1991 movie “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.” In that version, Robin Hood is a knight who has just returned from the Crusades, where King Richard is fighting a bloody war. When Robin returns, he opposes the high taxes and is banished from his home and his love, Marian, by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. He is an outlaw, though he eventually takes it upon himself to steal from the rich to give to the poor.

All magic comes with a price!

As far as heroic and tragic legends about knights go, he’s the man. Arthur’s #1 knight who had an affair with Guinevere that brought about the downfall of the kingdom. Seems to fit the story of the casting call pretty well.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if Anastaisa is Guinevere and Dr. Whale is tied in somehow. I have been theorizing that Dr. Whale is part of the King Arthur Tale. I am most convinced he is tied in with the new princess.

Now that I think about it, maybe Dr. Whale is Lancelot? That would explain why he’d be so depressed and on to every woman he could get his fingers on. Or King Arthur. He was more faithful and as people in SB are the “opposite” of their self’s in FTL … Yet another idea for the mystery that Dr. Whale presents. 😆

Interesting, but I think the a knight of African heritage with British nationality could be the casting of Lancelot’s character (or Robin Hood’s), based on the character’s description.
If Dr. Whale is someone from the King Arthur legend, perhaps he’s Merlin. We’ve yet to see a great Wizard on the show, and it’d be interesting to see if he is a hero or villain.

July 17, 2012 at 8:24 pm #152174SlurpeezParticipantSamantha: I’ll take anything you’ve got on Once Upon a Time!
Princess Aurora comes in a package deal! The ABC hit series is currently looking for a Prince Phillip to go hand-in-hand with Aurora and he kind of reminds us of Charming: He is known to selflessly shoulder the burden for those around him and is a skilled warrior. Oh, and he’s very handsome. Duh-doy!_serenachan: any news on the Mad Hatter from Once Upon a Time?
Showrunner Edward Kitsis was pretty tight-lipped about season two, but did say fans will “absolutely” see Sebastian Stan in season two, so Jefferson/Mad Hatter’s story is far from over. Small victories, people!"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Once-Upon-Time-ABC-Oz-Spoilers-1050066.aspxOnce Upon a Time has taken viewers to fairy tale land and Wonderland – and apparently, they’ll even venture to Neverland next season. But what about the Land of Oz? It turns out that producers have hinted at a possible trip to The Wizard of Oz locale since the beginning.
“What’s interesting is if you go back and look at the pilot, there’s a page of flying monkeys in Henry’s book,” executive producer Edward Kitsis says. “If I would go back and re-watch it – or buy the DVD coming out in August – and you pause on the book, you might see it.”
The scene in question is when Emma crashes her car and the book goes flying. “The book flips through a number of pages. There are glimpses of images, one of which are the flying monkeys from Oz,” executive producer Adam Horowitz adds. (Kitsis also notes that another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it image from the pilot was that of the hookah-smoking Caterpillar, which was voiced by Roger Daltrey in the Alice in Wonderland-themed episode, “Hat Trick.”)
That same episode featured the Mad Hatter (Sebastian Stan) taking the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) through a portal into a room full of doors, one of which leads to Wonderland. “There are many different doors and I might’ve seen a green curtain,” Kitsis says coyly, referring to the Wizard of Oz (played by Frank Morgan in the 1939 film) hiding behind a green curtain to mask his true identity. (Check out screen grab of the Oz symbol on the curtain here.)
“As we said in the episode with Wonderland, the Mad Hatter talks about all these worlds,” Horowitz adds. “We’re very excited about the possibilities for where we could show.”
There are no current plans to venture to Oz in Season 2, but the producers are leaving the door open, an ABC rep said.

July 17, 2012 at 8:43 pm #152173SlurpeezParticipantSaw this announcement on tumblr, so I can’t vouch for the accuracy. It’s very interesting if true. Seems like a magical ‘tornado’ might have touched down in SB. Must have been that huge purple cloud of magic we saw in 1×22. 💡
