I still think that really was their son. I just can’t see there being some random plot twist that it was all a lie.

I just don’t see how they can “fix” this story if “Morfetus” already hates his father in utero. What they seem to be setting up here, whether consciously or not, is a take on the Oedipal myth. The denouement of that is inevitably some form of patricide, symbolic or actual. *Shrug*
September 27, 2016 at 7:17 am #327786RumplesGirlKeymasterI think the only way to fix it is to have Rumple die for Belle and Mofetus, thus changing Belle’s mind about Rumple and I guess, in turn, changing Mofetus’s mind.

Brilliant!

Yeah there’s no way Rumple’s surviving long enough to see this kid grow up. And with the warning that Belle’s been given from Morfetus, she’s not going back to Rumple any time soon. Rumple’s death is the only way this gets resolved. (Whoever it was wrote that article speculating about one of the leads dying sooner rather than later, that was written after they’d seen the screener of this ep, yes?)
September 27, 2016 at 9:43 am #327788thedarkonedearieParticipantThey this was definitely their son. As to why he already has some hatred towards Rumple, I’d say it’s because of what Belle was projecting in her dream. She was making Rumple look like a true beast and she was horrified and scared to be in that castle. So as a result, Morfetus has only really seen Rumple be this intimidating creature whom Belle feared. Then all of a sudden, the real Rumple shows up in the dream….based on what he’d seen from Belle’s dream world, don’t you think its reasonable to be spiteful toward Rumple. It’s all bc in Belle’s dream, she casts Rumple in a dark light. Or at least that’s what I’m going with. And the age thing….I’ll say the baby is incredibly magical bc it’s Rumple’s kid and once the sand sprinkled on the baby, it allowed him to “exit” her womb and walk around in her dream just like Rumple.
Or ya know, it’s Jafar posing as their son….

But that would not be “fixing” the story, that’s taking it to its logical conclusion — whether the father’s death is premeditated or accidental (by setting up the circumstances that lead up to it, which Mofetus presumably just did), it would technically count as the enactment of the fantasy of parricide. I don’t think the set-up could get any more Freudian if they actually tried to turn Totem and Taboo into a telenovela. Not to mention that this whole thing is a dream sequence.
But it would very logically complete Rumple’s story — he killed his father, it would be logical that his son kills him (or causes his death).
The main difference is that we’re getting the story from the perspective of the father, and if Mofetus is indeed a yet to be born fetus “aged-up” through Belle’s psyche, it’s more about the mother’s attachment to the son than the son’s attachment to the mother.
The sad thing is that it also casts Belle’s relationship with her child in a really creepy light. That’s not how I would have wanted to remember Belle’s character, but there you have it. I don’t know. I’ve taught Freud too many times to get past the Oedipal set-up. I’ll take it from Dosteovesky’s Brothers K or from Hamlet, just not from OUAT, for heaven’s sake — leave the Freud at home, guys.

This would actually fulfill the prophecy that never really was fulfilled from season 3a. A boy would be Rumple’s undoing. Here we thought it would be Henry but maybe it’s his own son. I’m one of the people who still believe the prophecy has not come to fruition yet so this would make a lot of sense to me.
September 27, 2016 at 10:25 am #327798sciencevsmagicParticipantI’d wager a dozen cookies that A&E would not understand half of what you wrote there @nevermore. They and their show are simply not that sophisticated.
I like the idea about the prophecy; I’d forgotten all about it! It’d be cool if that’s how it played out. Good to have some continuity.
Didn’t A&E say in one of their interviews that we are going to see Morfetus again? I don’t really get how that’s going to work, now that Belle is no longer asleep.

No, the article was written before the screening and was a prediction, not actual info and the article didn’t say a character will die, they said one of the 9 regular will leave the show, which will happen maybe around 614 or 615.
Also maybe Morpheus is mr gold first name, lol and if there is a time jump btw winter and the show return in Jan,means that around February belle may be given birth, since they now say that there is a specific time for the birth to happen.
Also prophecy fits, I even think some time ago they hinted that the prophecy could be mentioned again, didnt the prophecy said that a boy would lead rumple to his son but that boy would be his undoing, or whatever was? So if they actually use that again, I may have to actual praise them for that, and at this point rumple dying, if that prediction is based on something real, is the only character I see going off.
And if he dies at his son hand, is link to Star Wars and the theory on tumblr that Morpheus is like Kylo rhen. Of course that can still be Henry, like belle gives birth, they all hide the kid from him, he uses Henry and then the evil queen, or Regina or Emma kill him to save Henry.
Sorry to much overthinking this, probably nothing will happen and rumple will live and no one leaves the show, bc at the time they say the regular will leave is the same time beauty and the beast new movie is released, not seeing them kill rumple at that time.
