The more that I think of it, I wonder if this whole drama with MM/DD was built and planned for by Mr.Gold in order to get Emma to come to him and ask for help…to get Emma to trust him.
I don’t believe for a minute that Mr. Gold needed Regina’s help to influence the DA to drop battery charges against him. Its very well possible that the D.A. owed Gold a favor(just as his King George counterpart owed Rumple a favor in FTL) and would’ve dropped charges with or without Regina’s coaxing anyway. In my mind, there’s no reason why Gold would need help in influencing anyone in Storybrooke..he “owns” the town as Ruby put it.
Maybe Mr. Gold just made Regina think she was agreeing to something that would benefit her, but what it actually did was lead her around in a circle where she ends up right where she started. The only result of the whole Kathryn drama being to advance Mr.Gold’s agenda.
I believe Gold’s agenda was to engender Emma’s trust. To have Emma go through this entire drama so that she would have to come to him to ask for help…and then get her to “trust” him..at least trust the results he promises. After one of the last scenes in episode 17 when Emma comes to him for help, its strange how we get resolution on Kathryn’s disappeareance so quickly after that..like within a day or two.
Just like he orchestrated the events leading Emma to become Sheriff …he orchestrated the Kathryn drama in order to lead Emma through a series of events so she can come to a realization of just what is happening in town and that she should come to him for answers/help.

I agree with you, he’s really trying to get her on his side. I might not be so bothered with it if the writers had already made clear of what his agenda is.

They show at least one of the two things Rumple/Gold loves most- Bae. And maybe they'll bring back Belle.

I agree. Mr. Gold knows how to look deep inside a person’s character and recognize their strengths and weaknesses. He clearly demonstrated that in “Desperate Souls” when he got Emma elected sheriff.

Mr Gold is THE maestro! Nothing happens by accident in his world. 😉
Regina throwing that little spanner in the works by stealing Chip is probably the first thing to not go according to his plan in a VERY long time. Now he’s got the control back after this whole charade with Kathryn and Mary. May not last for long though, considering Regina still has the Belle card up her sleeve. I LOVE seeing Gold/Rumple manipulate people, but also can’t wait to see him losing control a bit.

I think he totally saw all of the events to come and literally orchestrated that majority of them. He is crazy wise and I cannot wait for what is to unfold in the episodes to come. So sad we only have a few more before the season ends.

I was totally in the same mode..when I saw that scene I was like..what the? There’s got to be more to it than that…Even Regina was surprised he wanted to make a deal with her. Then I think she let her emotions about MM get in the way and then she became a pawn in his plan.

Which is exactly how he entrapped her and got her to cast the curse back in FTL too.
