This is my line of thinking as well. Before “Tallahassee” aired, I had no idea just how much of a role August played in Emma’s life. So, him being the one to arrange Henry’s adoption kind of makes sense for the story and his character.

He definitely had a heavy hand in bringing Emma to Storybrooke, so him playing some sort of role in Henry’s adoption would make sense. However, I’m hoping it’s not true, or at the very least, there’s more to the story. I’d hate to think that August knowingly gave baby Henry to the Evil Queen.

even worse – he gave the baby to Rumplestiltskin himself!
^But the child went to Regina. Rumpel only had him for a few hours, but the child would eventually go to Regina. The end result is still the same. But either way, bad move on August’s part.
but we never know whether August (or whoever’s done it) realised that. For all we know, Rumple didn’t have to tell anyone why he needed a child! He might have even tricked August in some sort of a deal, if you ask me. Mr Gold knows fully well that knowledge gives power so why share any piece of (quite vital) information if there’s no need for it?
In my eyes August gave baby to Rumple who’s ten times worse than Regina…If August had anything to do with Henry’s adoption, he would have had to do it from Phuket.
He was already in Phuket when Emma first found out she was pregnant and he was still in Phuket when Emma first set foot in Storybrooke, 10 years later.All we have to go in is that Mr. Gold didn’t have his memoreis until he heard Emma’s name, so anything he did before Emma came to town was done without his knowledge. But the fact still remains the the same, Henry went to Regina. That was the end goal.
And I highly doubt that August could have made a deal with Rumpel because like I already said, Mr. Gold didn’t have his memories before Emma arrived, and I’m almost certain that Pinocchio didn’t meet Rumpel back in the Enchanted Forest. so, that’s also out of the question. I’m going off of facts from the show.

Yeah, the fact that Mr. Gold didn’t have his memories until Emma arrived kind of rules him out as a possible suspect in Henry’s adoption. And if August did meet Mr. Gold, Mr. Gold would have recognized him.
So, I’m sticking with the theory that either August or the Blue Fairy had something to do with it. Which wouldn’t speak very highly of their characters since they were willing to give an innocent child to the Evil Queen.
Is it possible that destiny had a part to play in Henry’s adoption. An undeniable feeling that it had to be him that Regina adopted?
Gold kept the chipped cup throughout his 28 years memory free. Is it possible that he could not bring himself to throw it away, not knowing why, even though the was no reason at that point why he should keep it.

That’s an interesting theory. Even without his memories, Mr. Gold managed to hang onto a lot of sentimental keepsakes. So, the idea of destiny definitely plays into the story.
