I still really think that Rumpel’s loyalties are just with himself. He threw Belle out and even though he wanted her back later on after he heard what Regina said, he still threw her out. And we have no idea what he did to Bae, but i am thinking it isn’t going to be great.
Hmm, I disagree. The only reason why Rumpel threw Belle out is because he thought the Evil Queen sent Belle to steal his powers. He thought he was being tricked. I thoughthe made it quite clear. And yes Midnight Dreary, Robert Carlyle did confirm that on Twitter.
And it’s way too early to know what exactly happened to Baelfire. Personally I think August is Bae, so whatever happened to him, it obviously was that horrible.

And even though Rumpel thought Belle was working with the Queen, he didn’t listen to her, when she clearly had no idea what he was talking about. And he threw her out. That was not a happy thing that happened between them in my opinion.

They said that Rumple is not totally evil and that he does have some light and humanity in him. It will become more evident as the show progresses. Very few of the characters are completely good or evil, but many shades of gray.

Sawyer’s reformation took a long time, but it did happen, and I’m confident it will happen for Gold too….although, come to think of it, Sawyer had to let go of his first love before he found lasting love with Juliet…Hmm, I wonder if a residual distrust of his wife played a small part in Rumple’s reluctance to get close to Belle.’

I think that nothing so far suggets that Rumple would be able to hurt Bae. On the contrary, he went to desperate lenghts to protect him from the cruelties of war.
As for Belle, he definitely overreacted, yelled at her and threw her out. The way he acted was hurtful and unfair. But let’s face it. Rumple is not Prince Charming, he’s the Beast here. He has some issues and he’s been through a lot. Besides let’s not forget that he is cursed. And Belle was aware of all of it and understood the reasons for his outburst. He can still redeem himself in her eyes, I think.April 8, 2012 at 12:51 am #141267hjbauParticipantI think you can always expect the worst of Rumpel. I certainly always expect the worst out of the Evil Queen. Though i think it is possible to feel sorry for him, what made him what he is, but we haven’t seen that yet. We have seen what the made Regina the Evil Queen and i do feel sorry for her bad childhood, but i still think that she is always going to do the worst. I expect the same thing from Rumpel.

We’ve already seen what made Rumpel evil. The curse of the Dark One. He became an eternal demonic entity when that happened. And to be honest, I think Rumpel’s descent into evil is more understandable than Regina’s. Rumpel was consumed by a dark power that effected everyone it touched. Even someone as good and pure Snow White would have eventually succomed to it’s power. It’s almost akin to possession. Regina, on the other hand, blamed the death of her lover on a little girl, when her angered should have been fixated on her mother. Cora ripped Daniel’s heart out right in front of her, and yet, she blames Snow White. This, in my opinion does not justify or help me understand why Regina is so evil. Rumpel became the Dark One all in an effort to save his son from being sent off to die in a useless war. At least he isn’t blaming his evil on anyone in particular. He accepts what he’s become, while Regina only finds ways to blame others to justify on violent acts. They’re both evil, but their origins stories are extremely different.
April 8, 2012 at 1:09 am #141272an empty heartParticipantI don’t think it’s fair to say that Rumpel will never change. We’ve seen examples of Rumpel expressing love and emotions after he became the DarkOne. Even though he was consumed with its evil power, he still was able to find a place in his heart for Belle. Regina, on the other hand, hasn’t shown any emotion or capacoty to love after she became evil. We thouht we saw a little emotion in her in “Fruit of a Poisonous Tree,” but then that turned out to be a trick. We thought we saw it a little bit in “The Thing You Love Most,” but then that turned out to be a trick when she slaughtered her own father in cold blood. Again, we thought we saw it in “Hat Trick,” but that was a red herring too because we all know what Regina eventually ends up doing to her father: Murder.
At least after he became the Dark One, Rumpel didn’t murder anyone he loved. Regina, on the other hand, repeatedly caused harm to those she claimed to love the most. Her father, the Genie…
Big difference.

We already know what caused Rumpel to be evil. It was explicitly stated in “Desperate Souls.” He became evil when he became the Dark One.
And we’ve already seen numerous examples of Rumpel having the capacity to love in “Skin Deep” and “Desperate Souls.” Once Regina became evil, that was it. All of the moments we thought she was actually good turned out to be a red herring. And I don’t count blaming a innocent little girl for the death of your fiance as a decent enough answer as to why she became evil. Rumpel on the other hand was transformed into another being. He was no longer human. Regina was human, so her reasoning for becoming evil are actually pretty weak.

I still love her though. 😀
