Yeah, but if it wasn’t for that scene, we would have never gotten our signature line: KISS MY BOOT!
Rumple can be as evil as he wants as long as he delivers awesome one liners π
I don’t trust that fairy either! I think she lied to Grumpy, there was no real danger of Nova and him getting together. Did you notice how the original dark ones skin is not sparkly? Neither is Rumple’s skin in the beginning. I’m thinking he got into a fight with the fairies over his son and thus somehow got fairy dust in his skin. :ugeek: I know it’s a long shot, but he has to hate fairies for some reason!

Did you actually just say that? OMG!!! THAT IS TOO HILARIOUS!!! π π π π π
And I agree, hjbau. The fairies are connected to Bae in some way. Even though I’m not particularly trusting of the fairies, I don’t think they would intentionally hurt Bae though. I think they may have tried to whisk him off to protect him from Rumpel. π

I, for one, am eager to hear what tales Rumple will tell once he starts his therapy with Archie.
Me too! Honestly, when I heard about Rumple/Gold being next to sit on Archie’s couch from clips of Paleyfest, I actually busted out laughing! The imagery of that guy lying down on the couch telling Archie all his problems is just hilarious! π
I’m excited and worried at the same time about what Rumple/Gold would tell Archie, mostly for Archie’s sake. How do you think it would feel to listen to the secrets of someone like Rumple/Gold? Robert Carlyle himself said that Gold was slightly “warped.” I’m afraid Archie is going to walk out of that session slightly disturbed.

That is going to be one scary therapy session. π π―

How does Belle factor into the curse?
I don’t think Belle’s DNA or essence is needed to create or break the curse, but I do think that she was the inspiration for the curse. In episode 1×16, “Heart of Darkness,” we learned that Rumpel was able to bottle true love in the form of Snow and Charming’s hair. And a lot of people are speculating that it is true love, and not the heart of the one you love most, is what’s needed to cast the Dark Curse. So, why would the Dark One be so fascinated with true love? Why would someone so evil be interested in bottling true love? This clearly occured after Belle’s supposed “death,” so that leads me to believe that her death was the catalyst for Rumpel’s interest in true love. So, is Belle directly involved in the curse? No. But was she inspiration for it? Probably yes. πWhy are Rumpelstiltskin and the Evil Queen rivals?
Well, in episode 1×18, “The Stable Boy,” we learned that Regina’s mother Cora was the original millers daughter. And if that’s the case, then Regina was probably the child that Rumpel wanted as payment. So, I think Regina hates Rumpel because of that.April 9, 2012 at 11:56 am #141480midnight drearyParticipant@*The Looking Glass* wrote:

But what I’m curious to know is what role with the creator of the curse play? We’ve already seen that being the creator gives you benefits. For one, you retain all of your memories. π And I have a feeling the writers will reveal more about what benefits being the creator of the curse gives you. Because as the season progresses, the curse is becoming and more mysterious. The creation of the true love potion is a very curious thing. It makes me think that the curse wasn’t originally created for evil, or that maybe Rumpel gave the Evil Queen the wrong ingredients on purpose.

Offering deals with sometimes stupid returns… like a cloak, or a hair… but he does seem to always know what’s coming… so much so that he intercepts it. It’s like he knew cinderella was going to imprison him, but he still did it, provided that one day she’ll pay the price anyway. Probably he thought it still worth it.
His fascination with children obviously comes from the fact that he loved his boy dearly, and realises that children are the strongest bargaining chip for his deals. And it’s funny how he places the right kids at the right place, like Emma’s son. It’s obvious he set things in motion by doing that.
But Evil is made, not born, as is clear with this character – his hardships and losses turned him evil, but I do hope that at the end he will have his happy ending by finding belle… which i’m sure the queen is keeping as leverage against him… oh yes… probably that’s why regina wanted to know if Gold remembers he’s rumpel… otherwise, Belle would be useless…
I would see no reason as to why he would loose his dagger… Mr. Gold has keepsakes from everyone’s story, and when he became the Dark One, he had the Dagger in Hand, so he wouldn’t really loose it would he? knowing how precious it was to his life… But I guess we’ll find out.
I also hope we get to know why Gold and Regina clashed in the beginning and how they became rivals… is it just a feud for Power? would be stupid if that were the case as Regina and Rumpel are the 2 deepest characters there are in the series.
I do have some questions though:
1. Why did Rumpelstiltskin give Regina the Dark Curse in the First Place
2. How was he protected to remember the previous life? does this mean he is in fact stronger than Regina?
3. And what’s in a Name? What is this thing with names and Rumpel? The story states that who knows Rumpel’s name will have power over him, and in the beginning the guard informs snow white not to give rumpel their name as he will have power over them… really? It seems to me that EVERYONE knows rumpel’s name, and he knows everyone’s… how does it really give power? Did they just mention it in the series to stick to the original tale… they should show us how it matters… the names and stuff… cause I’m lost…In any case, I do not think he is truly evil.
If he where he would have killed belle, not let her go, and him being the strongest being in all the land, he doesn’t kill for no reason, he just toys around and makes deals. seems like a mischievous character like puck or loki… the trouble maker…But whichever the case,
Rumpelstiltskin is surely the most intriguing character in Once Upon a Time π

Great post! π A lot of great points.
Personally, I think Rumpel gave Regina the curse as a means to gradually destroy her. i think he gave her the wrong ingredients to the curse. In episode 1×16, “Heart of Darkness,” we learned that Rumpel was able to bottle true love. Many of us are beginning to believe that true love is the key ingredient to the curse. So, maybe itβs true love not, and not the heart of the person you love most that is needed to cast the Dark Curse. Rumpel would never give that much power to anyone, especially not Regina. So, I have a feeling Rumpel will reveal that Regina cast the wrong curse in the finale.

I’d like to try and tackle your third question, what’s in a name? One of the oldest and most powerful magics in fairy tales is that of possessing someone’s true name. It’s where the phrase “signing your life away” comes from. In the real world, by signing your name on a document: mortgage, job, credit card receipt or whatever, you are handing over a small bit of control to someone else over your life. You are binding yourself to an agreement…or a deal. π In the magical realms it goes even deeper. Possessing another’s name means you can completely control them, make them do your bidding. You can call angels down from heaven or demons up from hell and force them to do anything you want. There is a catch though. You can’t just call out Rumpelstiltskin and have him at your command. You must know the name’s true pronunciation with exact precision. You must know each inflection perfectly, the exact rise and fall of each syllable, which letters to emphasize and how much to emphasize those letters. It is truly an exact science. As long as Rumpel doesn’t tell how to exactly and correctly pronounce his name, he can tell it to anyone without fear. That’s also why in the first episode, when he meets Emma for the first time, he speaks her name very deliberately, letting the syllables roll around on his tongue (though whether he knows the true pronunciation or not, I don’t know.)
In the same vein, possessing someone’s hair (or blood or fingernail or even saliva) can be used for powerful and controlling magic. By possessing a piece of someone you basically have a direct magical line to the person. You can use it as a tracking device, sew it onto a voodoo doll and create all sorts of havoc or in Rumple’s case combine it with the hair of the person’s soulmate and create true love in a bottle.
I hope that helps answer your question.
Class dismissed. Thank you for attending Magic 101 π
