He could have had both if she had approached it better.
I agree. Every time I watch “Skin Deep” I start yelling at Belle when she says “Kiss me again. It’s working!!” If she had just kept her mouth shut or thought of a different way to approach it… And I agree that he was more than willing to go get Belle after the fight, especially if she needed a “home”. (that scene…ugh. I can’t contain all the emotions I feel). There is no doubt in my mind that he loves Belle more than his power. But because of his massive insecurity (“no one could ever love me!”) he can’t allow himself to believe that someone so beautiful and courageous as Belle (the two things he believes he is NOT) would love him.

Welcome to the club!! I’m pretty sure my Avatar is Rumple’s “Why did you come back?’ moment. That’s my favorite Rumple moment so far on the show. I even LOVE the sound of his leather squeaking when he leans in before he says it – totally cheesy, I know.
I can’t wait to find out more about Rumple/Gold the rest of this season. He is – BY FAR – my favorite character on the show. I honestly believe he is really good at heart. He never understood what he was getting into when he was trying to save Bae from the Ogre wars and he was tricked into becoming the Dark One. My theory is that somehow the curse has to do with Rumple finding a way to destroy his Dark One curse forever so that no one else will ever have to be cursed with it. Afterall, he was horrified when he realized he had killed a human being and the curse was transferred to him. I don’t believe he really likes having the power and magic but I don’t believe he would kill anyone and curse them to his misery the way the previous Dark One cursed him. I think he wants to keep his power and magic only long enough to find a way to get Bae back and then find a way to destroy the curse. And in some ways I even think that if he did something to hurt the EQ before she was the queen I think that he might even be using the curse as a way to make it up to her in the long run, but it will be one of those things that won’t pan out that way until the end of the series. But, like you, I am Rumple biased!! But, Rumple/Gold could also end up the evil/villian, horrible mass murderer of babies and children on the series and I would probably still love him because he’s Robert Carlyle!!

Basically this 100% accurate. 🙂 I would even find someway to justify it, I’m sure. Like “Well, he was really upset when he did all these horrible things so really it’s ok!” Whereas with Regina, it’s all, “gosh. I hope someone throws you off a tower…”
You mentioned the Dark One so it got me thinking: I wonder if the dagger is somewhere in SB. In his shop? Or maybe that’s what he was hiding in the woods when Graham stumbled upon him. Or maybe it’s in the mine along with Snow White’s coffin and that odd swirling vortex of terror….
Also, how long has he known that’s he is really Rumple? Did it happen when Emma showed up or has he always known and just bided his time, waiting for her 28th birthday? I’m inclined to believe the latter because I think he found someway to be unaffected by the Dark Curse, but Regina is unaware of this."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 11, 2012 at 7:41 pm #138610hjbauParticipantI don’t think that Rumpel was upset that he killed a human being, but just that it was the old guy that he knew and that he was tricked. I also don’t think that Rumpel now wants to give up his power. I think there might have been a point where he did, but i don’t think that when it first happened Rumpel wanted to give up the power and i don’t think at the time of Belle he wanted to. It is possible that something has changed, but just based on what we have seen that doesn’t seem to be the case.
March 11, 2012 at 8:20 pm #138611RumplesGirlKeymasterI think he wants his power right now but that is because he doesn’t know Belle is alive. I think if we look at the jail scene in Skin Deep, to me, it becomes clear that he’ll give up his power for Belle. If we take the myth of Rumple (the actual Grimm fairy tale) as canon, his name is his power. Guess his name and his power is gone. He tells Regina his name (gives up his power) for a symbolic representation of Belle (the cup): and we know that Belle means more to him than anything, he literally placed her on pedestal in FTL. It’s my opinion that this scene might be foreshadowing some sort of second show down between the Queen and Rumple, except this time is would be his actual magical power and the real live Belle.

If he had kept his part of the bargain and “told his tale,” for instance, she would have understood his vulnerability.
As cautious as he is, seems like he would have explained why the mirrors need to be covered (wonder why he didn’t get rid of them altogether?) and before sending her out alone, he would’ve warned Belle about his enemies. I suppose he blames his lovesickness for his carelessness.

I don’t want to believe that Rumple hurts babies and children 😮
I do think, he wants to find a way to break his own curse, but still be able to keep his power. Like maybe that was why he wanted the wand. Maybe he thought, if he could use the wand on himself and break the curse but still have magic through the wand.
But he can’t have both. I think, he’s going to realize, somewhere down the line what’s really important to him, his power or true love.
March 12, 2012 at 7:40 pm #138710midnight drearyParticipantDoes anyone else think that Mr. Gold has been gradually stealing Regina’s hearts? I have a feeling the reason why he’s been digging in the woods is because he’s planting the hearts so that Emma or the authorities will find them.
March 12, 2012 at 7:47 pm #138712hjbauParticipantWhy would Gold do that?

I have no idea! 😆 😆 😆 But I heard the theory on another site and thought that it was interesting. Maybe he’s trying to frame Regina. Or maybe the hearts will play an important role in helping the residents of Storybrook remember their past lives.
Hmm…still trying to work out the kinks with this theory. 😕
