I agree. In the OUAT universe, Rumpel and the Beast are the same person with the same destiny.
I completely agree. So do you think this means he will end up with Belle, but also die (like in the original Rumple story)!? I am hoping the writers give us a happy ending because they do always tweak stories. 😉

Hard to say…..does anyone really want him to die? He did not start offm evil but gain power which turned him evil. He did these things for a greater good through his experience. Look at his story and ask is he totally evil? Does he go to others to make these deals or does everyone go to him? He does give them an out but he like they do know that the reason they come is to deal and not leave empty handed. Those who have gone to him do not help themselves by returning to he. Not saying those who go to him are bad but they feel that ther is not other way. If they realize the other side of the coin which is one and the same as the one presented to them by Rumple before going to him will the situation be different? Maybe or maybe not but if they do go to him they have obligated themselves to him.

She openly goes after people and turns potential allies into enemies. Strategicly, she’s the weaker player. Mr. Gold knws that Emma is powerful, and instead of making an enemy out of her, he tries to warm up to her and create an alliance.
Rumpel also has a slight leg up because he’s made deals with so many people in both Storybrooke and Fairytale land. If they try to go against him, he could always throw in their face that they were the ones who contacted him and agreed to a deal without asking questions. The moral ambiguity of some of the characters is very complex and confusing sometimes. Sometimes the “good guys” side with the “bad guys.”

I agree. The presence of the show’s villains is having an odd effect on the nature of the good guys. They’re making deals and associating themselves with people who they would usually slay on first sight. Desperate times…

I know! I know! I feel like we’re getting ready to witness two titans entering the ring! Even though Rumpel is a thousand year old sorcerer and August is a wooden puppet. But hey, it could all work for if he plays his cards right. 😆

April 23, 2012 at 2:38 pm #143379Daniel J. LewisKeymasterWow, last night’s episode was amazing! So heartbreaking and informative. I was glad to see Mr. Gold admit to his mistakes and apologize to August (even though it was all done in vain). And FINALLY! We learned why Rumpel created the curse. Seems like the two most popular competing theories were both correct. He was looking for a lost loved one, and he was looking for a place without magic.
I also loved the scene where Rumpel told the Blue Fairy that he would love no one else until he found Baelfire. This explains why he was so reluctant to accept Belle. He needed his powers in order to find his son. If he had let the kiss take full effect, he would have been sacrificing his son for Belle. Trapped between two loves. Very tragic. 😥
April 23, 2012 at 8:20 pm #143439PriceofMagicParticipantThere are similarities between Rumpel losing Baelfire and Rumpel losing Belle.
One of the last things both Belle and Baelfire said to Rumpel was “You’re a coward” before they disappeared and Rumpel never saw them again. Rumpel swore to the blue fairy that he would “love nothing else” until he got Baelfire back yet clearly he loved Belle and he lost her for the same reason he lost Baelfire- he chose his power over being loved.
It makes me wonder whether Rumpel’s happy ending is only going to occur when he stops being a coward and chooses to sacrifice his power for his loved ones. All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixApril 23, 2012 at 9:18 pm #143451lissyParticipantWow everyone here has made such good points :ugeek: So did anyone else besides me nearly start sobbing when Mr. Gold gave that heart felt speech and the most sweetest, teary eyed, hug to who he thought was his son? 🙁 And I just about lost it when Rumpel was screaming Bae’s name after he fell into our world.
