Yes, I think he’s stealing hearts. I created another post about it. I think he is stealing them from Regina’s vault and possibly stealing them from people as well and burying them to keep them away from Regina so that she can’t control people with them or kill people. Since people can appearantly live without a heart (Graham), it only seems to be a problem if Regina has control of their heart or destroys it. So I think he is stealing hearts in order to protect people and take power away from Regina.

6. How does Bae play into Rumpelstiltskin’s fascination with children?
I think Rumpel’s fascination with children stems from his relationship with Bae. We’re still not clear on why or how Rumpel lost him, but it’s pretty safe to say that him becoming the Dark One had something to do with it. Personally, I think Rumpel only uses children as currency with certain people. Those who ask for the world on a platter (Cinderella) are charged with highest possible price. Cinderella not only wanted to attend the ball, but she also wanted to find true love and become a princess. Wanting to obtain that much power in that short amount of time is not only selfish, but it’s reckless. Very similar to what Rumpel did when he became the Dark One. So, if his costumers are going to ask for the world, then he’s going to demand something that means the world to them. And in most cases, that’s a child. Rumpel’s short-sidedness and recklessness led to the loss of his child, so he probably has a fair amount of contempt for anyone who shares these same reckless characteristics.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he sends the children he’s taken to other more respectful families. We’ve already seen evidence of this in “The Shepherd.” James’ mother makes a deal with Rumpel and trades one of her twins for the farm. That child was then sent to the King. So, Rumpel doesn’t sacrifice or harm the children, he just sends them to more respectable families. Though, it could be argued that the family James was sent to was…um…let’s just say not very respectful.

Can’t Rumpelstiltskin see the future? Maybe he knew what would happen, so he planned the entire thing.
March 13, 2012 at 4:40 pm #138767midnight drearyParticipantOk, I’ll take a crack at questions 15 and 16 as well.
15. Does Rumpelstiltskin still have his dagger?
16. What is Mr. Gold looking for in the woods?I don’t think Mr. Gold has the dagger. I’m not sure what happened to it, but I find it odd that he was able to bring certain items from Fairytale land (like the puppets, Belle’s chipped cup), but not the most important item in his possession, the dagger. So, whatever happened to it, he desperately looking for it right now, and that’s where the woods come into play.
In this show, there’s a running theme of everything being burried underground. The box containing the heart in episode 1×15, “Red Handed,” the well leading to the underground lake in episode 1×13, “What Happened to Frederick,” Mr. Gold constantly digging in the woods. Many viewers are even speculating that Fairytale land is burried underneath Storybrook. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if the dagger is underground as well. But the more important question is how did he lose it?
I think Rumpel probably lost his dagger when he was captured by Cinderella and held in prison right before the curse was cast. So, there’s a chance Cinderella, Snow White or Prince Charming have something to do with it as well. I don’t think Regina has the dagger, let alone knows where it is. If she had it, she would have used it already.
Wacky theory: I have a feeling Bae took the dagger and tried to destroy in an effort to destroy to the darkness that was growing in his father.
March 13, 2012 at 5:28 pm #138773katherinelnParticipantIn one of the forums (can’t recall where) someone mentioned his limp and wondered if it came from fighting in the Orge wars. I don’t remember when his limp started in FTL (if at all because I can’t remember seeing it), but after recently reading the classic story of Rumplestiltskin, it seems he hurt his own leg when his name was found out. I wonder if we’ll see this element played out in the show.
From the story:
“Perhaps your name is Rumpelstiltskin?”“The devil has told you that! The devil has told you that,” cried the little man, and in his anger he plunged his right foot so deep into the earth that his whole leg went in, and then in rage he pulled at his left leg so hard with both hands that he tore himself in two.

Ooo! That’s an interesting theory! Judging by the spoilers, Regina’s mother seems like an incredibly powerful woman. So it would make sense for her to have an interest the dagger.
March 14, 2012 at 12:53 am #138811hjbauParticipantAnd if her mother is the Miller’s daughter and not Regina then maybe instead of having her know his name as in the original story she has the dagger. That would mean Gold was looking for the dagger and could explain his digging. It could also explain why he does deals with Regina because somehow her family has power over him. I don’t know. I just think there could be a lot of plot there if they did that.
March 14, 2012 at 3:52 am #138815ciela_crowParticipantI love the idea of Regina’s mom having the dagger. I like the idea that her mom is the miller’s daughter to. Maybe Regina was her firstborn, and after Rumpel took her way, Cora went and found the dagger and ordered him to give Regina back to her. They are saying that Cora has an almost obsessive love of Regina (like she does Henry) and that would explain why. Then Rumpel could have got the dagger back somehow or Cora could have let him have it.

WHOA. 😮 😮 😮 I REALLY like the idea of Regina being the first-born that Rumpel took. It also feeds into my theory that Rumpel was the one who introduced Regina to the dark arts.
