I just don’t see what the point would be of making a character who is already miserable even more miserable. We’ve already seen him go through the loss of the two people he loved. We’ve seen him dealing with the pain and guilt for centuries. If we were to see him experience yet another loss there wouldn’t be too much character development, I think. Something has to change to keep his story interesting and change the dynamics a bit. The writers can’t make him go through the same type of situation over and over again. That’s not good writing in my opinion.

I agree. His character has to go through ups and downs in order for him experience any proper character development. He’s already lost enough. Baelfire, Belle, his powers…his debt has already been payed.

I agree. The same storylines being constantly repeated would become tiresome. I expect each character to change and evolve. I expect Mary Margaret to become stronger, I expect Emma to become more strategic, I expect Regina to reveal different layers to herself. Each character has to change and keeping them the same would grow tiresome.
And I agree, Midnight Dreary, Rumpel has already lost enough loved ones. He can’t keep paying for the price of magic because he has nothing else to give. In terms of truly precious possessions (like family members or lovers), Rumpel is out of stock.

Every time I see Mr. Gold or Rumpel sad, I just want to give him a big hug. I don’t want him to go through any more pain either.

Chapter 13 : I Will FInd You

As for Belle if they do kill her off that would just be salt in that open wound and he may as well be killed off if that happened. Every character in this story deserves to be redeemed because every single one of them good or bad has done enough good and bad for their fates to go either way.

For Beauty & the Beast, they need to show us that happy ending eventually..killing off either Rumple or Belle would be like killing off either Prince Charming or Snow White.
May 3, 2012 at 3:10 am #145289midnight drearyParticipant^I agree with both of you. 😉 Hope and redemption are two of the show’s most significant themes. The hope that someone will change. The hope that someone wil open their eyes. The hope that everyone’s happy endings will be restored. And in my opinion, the greatest achievement this show could ever accomplish would be the redemption of both Rumpel and Regina. Being able to take these two seemingly evil characters and have them go through their own separate trials and tribulations and to become better people for it would be EPIC.
May 4, 2012 at 5:13 pm #145470Daniel J. LewisKeymasterIn one of the sneak peeks for Sunday's episode, Regina tells Jefferson that she has a little bit of magic left. In the promo for the episode, Mr. Gold is seen telling someone that “all magic come with a price.” Mr. Gold, NOT Rumpelstiltskin. I'm thinking that Regina made some sort of deal with Mr. Gold to give her a fair bit of magic in return for a favor. Even though this excites me, I can't help but be confused. Mr. Gold told August in “The Return” that this world is void of magic. Of course, there's the exception of Emma, but for the most part, this world has no magic. So, if Regina did get her bit of magic from Mr. Gold, then where did Mr. Gold get it from? Emma? Is that the favor Mr. Gold asks of her? Or did he get it from one of his magical artifacts? Or maybe Jefferson brought him some magic back after his trip through the hat.
