also. lets go in a pretend world for a while, if Rumple commits suicide, it is the end of the curse.

The previous Dark One had to trick Rumpel into killing him in order to be released from the curse. So, I don’t think suicide is an option. And I’m not sure if destroying the dagger would help either. For the time being, the only to things that can break the curse of the Dark One is true love’s kiss and death by the dagger.
I wonder if it’s possible to somehow place a spell on the dagger?

True love kiss. As we saw in “Skin Deep,” true love’s kiss has the power to reverse the Dark One’s curse.
True love’s kiss does have the power to break the Dark One’s curse. It was powerful enough to lo lift the curse over Storybrooke, and as we saw in “Skin Deep,” it was powerful enough to break Rumpel’s curse and turn him back into a human. Now, whether or not the writers go in that direction with the story is another story. But since he’s part of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, I think it’ll factor into his character arc eventually.
You’re right it does. I was wrong. Coincidentally the episode ‘Skin deep’ just reaired today in my country, so I saw that 😀
But I feel like the curse of THE Dark One, should be harder to get rid of then that. There is only one The Dark One. But I guess the curse could still reside inside the dagger without having to be transferred from one person to another. And then lie there waiting, like a venomous snake, for a chance to ‘jump’ back out and possess someone.

Good point. The original or true Dark One will definitely need more than true love’s kiss or the dagger to destroy him. I hope we get more info on the origins of the Dark One in the future.

It latches onto a host and keeps the host alive and immortal so that it itself can survive. Whenever its host is stabbed with the dagger, the dark one latches itself onto the person who did the stabbing thus gaining a new host. The host cannot stab themselves with the dagger because they are just putting the dark one back into themselves and thus surviving.
True love’s kiss- I think this may actually work in breaking the curse. If the dark one parasite infects its host with evil then it is likely going to be defeated by something as pure and good as true love. In general the likelihood of anyone loving the dark one is pretty slim. Then along comes Belle and she sees Rumple, not as the dark one, but for the man he is underneath. She truly loves him and he loves her and that powerful emotion is enough to threaten the dark one’s hold on Rumple.
It could explain why Rumple let Bae go, the son he loves more then anything. The dark one parasite sensed the threat the portal held for it. It refused to let Rumple go with Bae. When the portal was gone, the dark one wasn’t threatened anymore. Notice how Rumple went from “I can’t” when the portal was there to “I want to go with you Bae” when the portal was gone.

Good interpretation. The Dark One’s essence is the real problem, so killing Rumpel wouldn’t solve that.
December 13, 2012 at 6:39 pm #164894beauty the beastParticipantI wonder if we’ll ever see another Dark One on the show? Either past or present? I’d prefer to see the ones from the past. If we were to get a new Dark One, that would mean that Rumpel was killed…and…I just…*Wipes Tears from Eye* 😥

I’m anxious to learn more about Zoso. I mean…the man was suicdal for God’s sake. 😯 I hope that isn’t foreshadowing for what will happen to Rumpel’s character.

Possibly. But I’m not exactly sure how that would play out. Killing Rumpel would kill a large portion of the plot, so that’s not an option. But I am interested in exploring the mythology behind the Dark One. Who was the original Dark One? Why can’t he be truly destroyed?
