I’m working on a little one-shot fic right now and I’m wondering…
Do you suppose the Dark One makes his own outfits? XD
They’re pretty unique and it’s not like he’s a stranger to needle and thread.
Maybe it’s a side business. He supplies all the baddies with kickin’ clothing.[adrotate group="5"]"Nothing is easier than to denounce the evildoer; nothing is more difficult than to understand him."

He is certainly comfortable with the needle and thread, so I can see either one happening. He either “poofs” into outfits, or he meticulously sews his clothing – another way to do this “best thinking.”
Rumple is such a bad a**. I really love how Robert Carlyle has interpreted his character to be. He does a fantastic job.

Would the power just loop back in to themselves and cancel itself out? Would they die and release the power into the void? Could Rumple kill himself and then be saved by magic (or….science ^_^)? I mean that in the “technical” death, you know like when someone is clinically dead in the hospital for 60 seconds or something. Just wondering and exploring the ideas of different ways the curse could leave him. I don’t think any of these are the case, I’m just pondering.

May 8, 2013 at 4:56 am #192152jasminegirl84ParticipantI am pondering that now too. Maybe someone can shed light on this with evidence from the show, but I would hazard a guess and say that the magic would fall into the abyss if The Dark One were to kill himself. I could have sworn I heard this somewhere (via interview, podcast, or even the show, cannot remember) too. You are not just postulating, lone.
There might not be a technical death because the dagger seems to be the end of The Dark One, whether it be through control or death. For the sake of simplicity (or it may be more complicated, I dunno?) there has to be a way to kill the Dark One for good with no return in sight. Now, that I think about it, Rumple does mention to Bell in 2×21 that even though you are immortal, that does not mean you cannot be killed. I know he is more specifically referring to his interpretation of the prophecy of his “undoing,” but I would think it also includes the dagger.
Just my two cents.

May 8, 2013 at 5:19 am #192157jasminegirl84ParticipantYeah, but because he was without his magical realm, he was more easily killed with common elements like poison. You are right about the magic dissipating in this scenario.

May 8, 2013 at 8:17 pm #192317PriceofMagicParticipantWhoever stabs the dark one with the dagger becomes the new dark one. I don’t think Rumple can kill himself with the dagger because when he stabs himself the magic is going to flow out and then right back in again. Also Zoso wanted to die. If killing himself with the dagger was a realistic option, I think he would’ve tried it rather than tricking Rumple into becoming the new dark one.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixMay 8, 2013 at 8:28 pm #192322thelonebamfParticipantI think you’re right that most likely the cursed dagger wouldn’t allow Rumple to die by his own hands. Interesting territory to play in, though.
I don’t know if I’d site Zoso’s actions are necessarily a flawless litmus test. Zoso definitely wanted to die. This is evident because he goaded Rumple into stabbing him. Why not take the dagger and stab himself? Well, possibly a combination of vindictiveness and also an attempt to give Rumple the tool he’d promised him. (He was also in Rumple’s control, and since Rumple had worked so hard to get the dagger, he wasn’t about to hand it over and let Zoso do whatever he liked with it.) The Duke may also have ordered him not to steal it, so he couldn’t retrieve it himself.
I think you’re right, mind you- I just think if one wanted, there are some other possibilities to explore in Zoso’s motivation in that scene.
