Wouldn’t Neil know the people of Storybrooke from their actual stories, just like Emma and the rest of us? He might not “know” them and have an emotional connection to them, but he did grow up at some point and would at least know who Snow White, Evil Queen, Prince Charming, the dwarves, etc. He just wouldn’t freak out about it like we would since he’d already know that they were real people from his homeland. Kinda like Americans and Europe (or where ever our ancesters are from), lol.
Yes, he would know the stories that are told about them here (which as we know are “wrong” in the Onceiverse). But I don’t know that he could point to Mary Margaret and go “that’s Snow White” because he was not in FTL at that time.

I love that he and A&E talked about what Neal and August talked about and that he has such a great handle on the character of Neal/Bae. I really hope he becomes a series regular next year – we still have so much to find out about his life and how he will interact with other main characters.
Sevenof8, yes, he would know the stories but that isn’t what the interview said. He said in the interview that these were people he grew up with. And he left FTL when he was 14 or 15 so he was already “grown up” by then and those characters weren’t born yet. I really hope this was not a mistake and that we may find out what those connections are. Right now I am at a loss, but pretty much everything about OUAT surprises me!

The only thing that makes sense of his comment is that he knew of them, and grew up with them in the sense that we all grow up with these classic literary characters to some extent. Except he knew the stories reflected “real people” somewhere in the realm where he used to live.
Rg is right though, he might not have been able to match the counterparts, but then again, Henry did give him the Once Upon a Time Book. So maybe that’s how he got the list together for Tamara. I wonder if it is also possible that August wrote the book, and had it to show Neal 12 years ago when convincing him to abandon Emma?
Kat: Yes, that’s true, they often film things, and of course A&E can be unsure if it is in the final cut. So to my last question above about August, one thing they did cut apparently might bear on that. –apparently there is one of Jefferson and August meeting… Yet unless they revisit any of that background about the book’s history and creation especially, we just don’t know.

May 12, 2013 at 1:54 am #193279RumplesGirlKeymasterThat’s true. We never did see Neal give the book back to Emma/Henry. He could have used that to tell Tamara who was who in the town. So far as we know every major character is in it.

How right you are. I really hope David Anders has some role to play in this finale.

There may have been more, according to this Tweet that Neal did not set Emma up for jail from Adam. He says that, then in response to the fan saying basically well if he didn’t how did she end up there, he says “great question. We haven’t shown that yet, but he didn’t call the cops. He just did what august said — leave her to be savior”
Sounds like there is more they might show on that, though I feel it is back tracking in a way for the story. Unless there is some crazy conspiracy link thing going on–like, the Home Office was involved somehow–but how! I can’t even get my head around a crack theory to connect it right now.Back when Tallahasse aired, I felt the Neal/August scene switched rather abruptly to the Emma getting arrested one in a very telling moment, when August was about to tell Neal everything about the Curse and Emma’s role in it. At the time, I thought it was because during the explanation August would mention Rumplestiltskin’s name and Neal would let the cat out of the bag and reveal to him that he was Rumple’s son – I was sure the contents of the box was going to be something that would let even the most incredulous outsider believe in magic, it never crossed my mind that it’d reveal that August knew Neal was Bae. Now that we know Neal did not call the cops, though, there’s a chance that the Neal/August scene will be expanded later, showing what happened between its end and Emma getting arrested. Who knows?
May 12, 2013 at 2:34 am #193289MysteryKat25ParticipantI had completely forgotten about that particular cutscene KFChimera! Wasn't it of August arriving at Jefferson's house on his motorcycle and he was supposedly who took MM back to the jail cell so fast? Wonder why all of it was cut – time or storyline they wanted elsewhere? I think there was another one of Archie & David spending time at the Rabbit Hole spying on Girls Night back in Skin Deep too which explains how he managed to be right outside to give MM the wrong card. I was really sad that both of those scenes got cut, I bet they would have been really interesting, especially the August stuff. It would have helped explain why Emma was so trusting of him soon after that too.
Most cut scenes are perfectly capable of coming back into play at some point (especially if they don’t show up on a DVD at some point) but most are probably just gone and then we’ll have to wait and see how things play out and hear about it years from now when things are said and done.
I mentioned this somewhere on the forum the other day but on Lost Michael Emerson was supposed to do a 3 episode mini-arc and then be done – they loved him so much that they restructured what they were doing and made him a hugely important person later on. Same goes for N/P (Nikki & Paulo) who they they they needed and they were so hated in their first couple of eps that they got rid of them MUCH faster than they had originally intended. So sometimes things they see / feel on set change things vastly and not everything ends up where they originally planned for it to go. If I’m not mistaken they originally planned on killing off Charming at the end of the pilot which means a TON of storylines would have been majorly different.
It doesn’t surprise me there was stuff cut out of Tallahassee – I think we’ll definitely see some of those gaps filled in later on if it’s relevant to present-day but that ep was jampacked with stuff so I’m not really surprised by this.
We still need to see stuff on screen but I have a feeling that when Neal gets back he and Emma will have to eventually talk about stuff and she’ll give one of her “I’ve spent _____ believing that this is what happened” speeches (think back to her being reunited with Snow & Charming). It takes her a long time to get over stuff and being left in jail is too big of a thing to just gloss over so we should find out exactly how she was found before. I have a feeling it was August cause the guy said something about the guy giving her up and if we’re supposed to believe it wasn’t Neal then it has to be August.

😆 Good point. Neal could have relayed second hand information after he talked with Henry.
