Yes we are a “ship and let ship, even if that ship is no ship” site–to the core I would say. Ship whatever pleases you! I think one of the problems we’re having is that the individual shipping threads are also becoming places for people to stop by and say why they *don’t* ship that ship. It’s happening at HookedQueen, Mufire, FireQueen  it has happened at Hookriel and it was happening at the individual CS and SF threads until we started the CSF thread to talk things out. I’m not going to say that people can’t post their opinions to any ship in that particular thread (because I’m not evil in that manner) and actually I’m not overly sure how to deal when this sort of thing happens because we encourage thoughtful debate but I think the preference of the shippers is that it remain a positive place for their own ships.

I am open to suggestions here guys.

Canon or not,  MuFire is staying on the ‘ships masterlist because it includes ALL the ‘ships in the OUAT fandom.  I actually like that name ‘MuFire’ better than Warrior Fire.  Reminds me of the dragon from Mulan.

Guys, let’s ‘ship what we want to ‘ship and quit trying to put each other down.  Seriously.  We’re a family and be respectful of our ‘ships.

Jamie is cast in another show. She’s only going to be on shortly and her new show starts filming soon. Sarah (Aurora) is in the same boat. They have other obligations. They may be on occasionally here and there, but not long term in the foreseeable future.

That is all I’m saying about the Mufire ship and the probability of it. But ship it if you want. 🙂

I wasn’t trying to put anyone down for shipping. I was simply stating my reason for not shipping. Adam and Eddy have said definitively that Mulan/Neal definitely aren’t a romantic couple.

Again, this isn’t meant to be a put-down or anything like that. I’m just reporting what the show creators have said. People are welcome to disagree with me or anyone else for that matter. For instance, several people have stopped by the HookedQueen page I created to say they disagree with that pairing, and that is fine by me as long as there is no hate.

I think Slurpeez was merely pointing out what has been officially said thus far about WarriorFire, and in my opinion, very polite. To me, it doesn’t qualify as not letting someone ship, but yes, preference to shippers is the place, not necessarily the words themselves.
I really like what has been done with the polite debate threads, because I agree, shipping threads preferentially are used for happy-go-lucky excitement or sharing thoughts with like-minded shippers. At the same time, if people are polite and kind, it’s really not their fault if people react in an undeserving, immature way to a polite, opposing opinion… So I understand the hard decision from both sides. It’s a toughie. You’re doing a great job, RG! 🙂 … I don’t envy the responsibility that is on your shoulders!

Threads like these don’t *have* to be shippy threads. At least not romantic shippy threads. The Swanfire and CaptianSwan threads are obviously romantic shippy threads because that’s how the show is presenting them but then of course we run into the “but what is the show presenting and what are we interpreting” and then my head hurts.

I kinda agree that paired threads generally should be positive places for people that like the pair. (But then like the pair as what—because I like the idea of Mufire being a BFF ship type and would love to discuss their interaction last night but I don’t wanna step on Shiper toes) See. Everything is circular and can be interpreted in many ways so while I can get on my Mod box and yell “ship and let ship!” I also have to say “polite discussion is for everyone!” This is exactly the reason why we opened the CSF thread.

There is no solution here. If the creator and romantic shippers of Mufire are open to letting this be a general Mufire thread about Neal and Mulan in general, then we don’t really have a problem. But it’s not a problem for this to be a romantic thread either.

I think it is too bad about Jamie having another role.  Neal and Mulan scenes had good chemistry onscreen To me.  There was a sweetness present.  I can see her giving Neal the strength he needs.  I think it would be hysterical seeing Rumple dealing with Mulan as a daughter in law.  She’s so honorable and he’s not, and she will call him out on his behavior.  Oh well, for logistic reasons I don’t think we will see this.

Lost my whole post, grr (consider yourselves lucky I guess). I’ll try to recreate the important stuff.

Addressing this ONCE and then moving on. I don’t want this place to get super negative and I want to actually enjoy popping in to see what people say about a ship I like the idea of.

Thanks slurpeez for trying to make sure we didn’t get our hopes up too high. I knew the CC stuff didn’t rule it out (I made a point of checking) but I had forgotten about that tweet. If there’s one thing I can’t stand right now, it’s the media hyping the main triangle and giving BOTH sides WAY TOO MUCH hope.

That said, they talked about where Neal was *right now* – in fact, both guys have their eyes on Emma at this point in time. That means no matter what, somebody will get left out. They didn’t say he could never ever ever move on with someone else, they said that’s where his focus is RIGHT NOW.  (In fact, in the recap, they said he HAD moved on and DID love Tamara so it’s not impossible) but I would like to think that we all want them ALL to be happy. I know I do, regardless of who gets left out in the cold. The thought that either of them could only ever has eyes for Emma is just depressing cause that means someone is left alone and miserable, and I don’t want that for either of them.

That tweet was a major buzzkill cause I really enjoying their interaction! I love what they’ve  brought out in each other so far and as I said yesterday, can see the basis for a wonderful friendship that has (had?) great potential. Bummer.

One thing I do want to address: NOT ALL CSERS SHIP NEAL TO GET RID OF HIM. Glad I got that off my chest. I don’t bother to analyze Neal with every woman I’ve even slightly crack-shipped him with because up to now, we either haven’t had much to go off of to make it worth it, the timeline doesn’t add up yet, or I just wasn’t that interested.

I took the time to analyze the IDEA of  Mulan and Neal because I actually *gasp* enjoyed it.

I get why a lot of people think that CSers automatically jump on anything that will get rid of Neal, but that’s the case. Just like I don’t believe that every single Hookriel shipper is secretly trying to get Hook off the show and out of Emma’s life. Have I been infuriated at the lengths some will go to in order to try to make their crackship canon? Sure I have! It’s why I now avoid threads for things that on paper sounded really great story-wise. Because I can no longer get behind  it for the very reason I mentioned last night as the one thing stopping me from full-on shipping for Mulan & Neal (or rather, before that tweet showed up).

Disney canon: We know they have cast the role of Eric and I’ve seen some diehard anti-Hook people want Eric to be gay so that Ariel can be with Hook and they can disappear off the show and make way for SwanFire. Does it make me mad?  You betcha. Do I go into that thread anymore where it is a POSITIVE environment for something that they are passionate about? NO. Do I like the idea of a FRIENDSHIP between them if we ever see them interact? Yes. Would I go to the shipper thread to talk about it at this point? No. (I did used to go to Hookriel and I really liked the idea at first but did the same thing as here yesterday: voiced my concerns about the fact we didn’t SEE them together yet and have no way of knowing which spin they’re putting on it but that I was intrigued by the IDEA which as a writer, I am! Pirate + Mermaid has great potential for me story-wise. Now that I know Eric will be around, I just stay away and let them ship their hearts out.

Personally I don’t WANT to be invested in something that can’t happen for reasons that are obvious, whether it’s Disney canon or what they writers have said or whatever it may be. I want to invest my time in something that has POSSIBILITY and HOPE. I realize that many fans think my corner of the fandom is delusional but they haven’t ruled it out yet and have hyped it so why NOT enjoy that? Heck, SQ has been officially dismissed too and that’s one of the biggest fandoms still. I’ll go down with my main ship no matter what cause I already am so invested in it because they gave me reason to be. Going down with 1 ship is MORE than enough. I don’t want to be heartbroken over every ship on the show! This fleet would sink me to the depths of Davey Jones’ Locker and bring me back up to do it again 1000 times over. No thanks!

So this is definitely a ship and let ship issue. I don’t care to ship things that definitely won’t happen cause it’s just too heart-breaking, but I’m sure many others would love to continue shipping this idea just in case. So as far as I’m concerned, especially now that the opening pages come with a big neon warning sign saying: “THIS PROBABLY WON’T HAPPEN CAUSE THEY’VE ALREADY KINDA KILLED IT,” this should be a positive shipping space.  So RumplesGirl – perhaps this space can be more shippy and having another thread for friendship appreciation would be more appropriate and make everyone happy.

I probably won’t waste my time on it too much even though I really really loved what I saw unless they give us reason to hope for it, but given how big the Hookriel ship still is even after everything I mentioned, as well as the SQ fandom, I think that those who wish to crackship, even knowing it’s not really an option, should be able to continue doing so in peace.

I really thought when I got back in here I’d be in a safe place going to this thread and seeing just people who enjoyed their interaction so was a little upset when I first got here to realize what it was spiraling into. I’ve avoided 99% of the threads recently to stay OUT of the shipper drama as much as possible and I’m running out of corners! We should ALL be able to ship and let ship, even crackship, without having to hide from our own threads.

Sorry I’m just super touchy cause I’m tired of being told that I only ship things to get rid of Neal and that if I were really paying attention to the show (as if I’m not), I would see that it HAS to end up that way. It’s not up to us, it’s up to them and I do see things differently than most around here apparently but we all have our own filters so that’s bound to happen and that’s ok!

That said, I do appreciate what I believe was the intent of what slurpeez was saying. It’s no fun to get invested and then have your heart broken and I really resent how much the triangle has been hyped and what that has done to our beautiful fandom. This forum was once my home and now I have to tip-toe around it for fear of upsetting people or being jumped on for not paying enough attention to it when I analyze everything, hence sticking to the shipper threads I actually enjoy. This whole situation saddens me but in the long-run it’s better to know now I guess. Doesn’t mean I’ll stop enjoying them or seeing the potential that may or may  not be wasted, and I expect the same from ANY shipper of ANY fandom.

 

Now that I’ve gotten that annoying housekeeping out of the way…back to Mulan and Neal!

What I actually came here to say before I was distracted was about the Disney canon thing. My one obstacle to really really wanting them together after what we saw last night (which has great potential in my opinion) is that if they bring in Shang, I’m done.

However, I did some digging into Mulan the Disney movie vs Mulan the legend. If they go with the legend side, she is more than free to put with whomever and I think they might. In the legend, Mulan is a warrior for 12 years, not just for one big mission. The Mulan we’ve seen is more of a career soldier type but ultimately wanting to get back to that other life, that other “world,” if you will. We saw the start of that last night with her asking Neal about what is was like there.

Even though the actress is very busy and not likely to be on all that much, I’d still like for Mulan to find happiness and love again. Whether that’s introducing Shane into the mix or going a different direction and leaving her open for whomever remains to be seen. I think they’re safe to have her in a relationship as long as they don’t bring in Shane and say something along the lines of “Well if you look at the legend which is what we’re basing her on, there was no Shang” and I could see them doing something like that. If they bring Shang into the show however, it’s kind of a foredrawn conclusion because I don’t see them breaking any Disney canon couples up. They’d lose viewers who have been waiting ages to see their favorite couple.

I will say that the main obstacle I see to the potential in Mulan/Neal IS the fact that she won’t be available to be around much. I can’t see her going to Storybrooke, being involved with Neal/friends with Emma and Snow etc, and then NOT being around when they need her. Just like whoever Regina’s love interest is, they need to be around a lot too which it sounds like Robin Hood might be in the 2nd half of the season. Granted I feel the same way about Red and Archie etc etc (esp Red being Snow’s best friend and a wolf which would come in super handy…) and yet, they’re gone too so who knows. I suppose if they had Mulan in there enough or sent her off on some other quest of something she had to do alone for awhile and then brought her back when she is more available, they could still have room on the shelf for “someday” in any capacity, friend or otherwise.

I was really interested in the fact that she sounded like she WANTED to go to Storybrooke. I’m not sure how she can get there and then NOT be a part of everything so maybe something happens to her or she ends up having to stay behind (again) somehow, but my hope is that someday our main characters get back there and are reunited with her. I feel HORRIBLE that she is always the 3rd wheel to Phillip & Aurora and I want to see her happy again! (She actually smiled! for once).

If Neal is the only one who makes it to Neverland which it looks like he will be since MAP aren’t supposed to be around for too long given other project commitments and not having a HUGE story arc this year, then perhaps something makes it so that ONLY Neal can travel which FORCES Mulan to stay behind. Either that or something else big happens in FTL so that she has to stay for now which would give it time before they had to address who her true love is anyway. We know they’re interested in telling us how Phillip survived and more on Maleficent but it’s not in the cards for THIS SEASON. They might change their minds at some future point in time and have the ability to do so, however unlikely, once they see how things are going. They may have dismissed it but then seen just how well it played and thought you know, maybe there is something here after all. WE JUST DON’T KNOW.

I have high hopes for the MuFire, WarriorFire, NinjaFire, DragonFire, whatevertheheckfire it is to be at the very least good friends and I want both of them to be happy, whenever, however, and whomever that is with. I really love the potential of them though, even if it is kinda pointless to hope for it. I guess in the long run if they ruin my ships, at least one would just be a crackship I’m only mildly invested in and not one that has given me TONS of hope for over a year. Still annoyed though and hoping they’ve changed their minds if that really is the case.

So, I think this might just need to be a shippy thread. Ship your ship. If you don’t ship it, let’s just let them have their fun and do what shippers do. As someone who is part of one of the larger crack ships, I know how much fun it can be to just have fun (a TV show be fun, I know…it’s unheard of) I too appreciate people uploading the news and keeping people apprised but now it’s out there so let’s just…you know…ship?
