So, I am still not sure about how I feel about Mulan but i thought I would start this thread since she is apparently supposed to be a recurring character throughout this season, and I have a feeling there will be an episode where we learn more about her character and what role she plays in the overall plot because there is supposed to be a title card with her in the spotlight.

As of right now, we have seen no soft side of Mulan. There was a hint of her love for Phillip, but still, she puts on a hard exterior and shows no true feelings. The writers took one small aspect of Mulan (her fighting in an army) and ran her whole character based off of it. There is so much more depth to Mulan – she only posed as a man and went to war to save her father. Her heart is huge, and her tough exterior has thrown me for a complete loop.
I am sure the more back story we get to Mulan, the more I will enjoy her character. But as of right now, I do not enjoy her bossy, know it all self.
And I am NOT a fan of her love for Phillip. I feel very defensive for Aurora 😆
Go find Shang, Mulan. He is your true love. 😆October 12, 2012 at 2:51 am #156406saimejoxxersParticipantMy problem so far with Mulan is that she was SO AWESOME in the Disney movie, and I felt like she was kind of flat so far in the premiere. She didn’t really have a personality except that her and Aurora had friction, she may or may not be hitting one someone else’s prince, and that she’s good at fighting. On the one hand, they didn’t have too much time to expound, and there was a lot of plot-movement and exposition going on to fill the audience in on what the heck was going on (and where the heck were they and is it the Enchanted forest or isn’t it?), but on the other hand I think they could have done a bit better with the time they did have.
However, I definitely agree that her backstory will fill a lot of things in. So far I haven’t been disappointed with any of the characters, once we get to know them more. I have faith in the writers. There’s probably a good reason for her being so cold and clipped. I hope. xD I hope she’s awesome soon, seriously. And yes, a Captain Shang would also not go amiss.

But we know that she is strong, a warrior, and very loyal. 😎 She cared deeply for Philip enough to follow him to rescue his True Love, even when she was already in love with him. She was willing to sacrifice her life for Philip and Aurora to have their happiness, even when it meant that her soul would be sucked away by a Wraith.
And after Philip is gone, she seems still willing to look after Aurora, being very protective of her. 🙂 She is wary and not easily trusting, given her treatment of Snow White and Emma. But there is probably much that she went through–she seems very hardened. She sort of reminds me (a little) of Emma in the beginning of the series.

I’d like it if Shang’s introduced, but if they choose to leave Mulan’s love story at unrequited-with-Philip, I’ll be happy. Some love is unrequited. I can’t wait to expand on her character, I don’t think she’ll disappoint.

Not impressed with her scarce appearances but hopefully it will change, she is a great character in the end! Also, don’t like the fact they had to make her love prince Philip, it only works with Aurora jealousy and adds nothing else to the plot so someone explain me why make her look bad…
November 19, 2012 at 12:25 am #161275sacrlcParticipantI’m still pondering Mulan but one thing I am definate about …..What were they thinking when they created her hairdo? 😕
Don't grow up. It's a trap.
