As Ingrid and her middle sister HELGA ( who she loved) were playing she accidentally froze her heart thus killing her. Her parents thus had her taken away to protect the younger sister and the kingdom. They had the rock trolls take the memories in Arendale. Since Ingrid was banished and in her anger and loneliness being isolated she grew up turning to the dark side till she was put into the urn.

Arendale is the only place the memories could be erased. They could not erase information / books in other lands. That is why ENCHANTED FOREST still had HERALDRY books for Arendale.
.I am thinking ELSA and ANNA were the daughters of the youngest sister ? I think her name was GERDA. Daughters with the blonde hair inherit the ice magic. Daughters with the dark/ red hair do not. That was why Ingrid does not like ANNA… Anna represents everyone that put her in the earn. She had disliked her youngest sister because she had freedom while Ingrid had been trapped.

As for Dairy Queen living in MINNESOTA ( a state settled by people from Scandinavia) I think she was able to go there because ICE and SNOW goes everywhere so she can travel from land to land via snow and ice. ( That was why RUMPLE could not travel via ice and snow… no hitch-hikers) Wanting a family DQ/ Ingrid became a foster parent…. When she came across EMMA the plot to have Emma who looked like her beloved sister came to fruition. She then spent the rest of the curse time coming up with ways to make it happen.

This is interesting. We know that water travels between all lands, and ice and snow are just frozen water. The only thing is we have pics of Dairy Queen appearing from some door which some have speculated to be a portal Maybe her ice magic create magical portals that form magic doors.

Gerda & kai were childhood sweet hearts in the Snow Queen story. I like to assume that Elsa & Anna’s father is Kai. If I remember correctly Gerda meets a princess on her way to rescue Kai. Perhaps she is the basis for the idea of Helga.

We got an actress to play Cruella De Ville . I am sure we see Helga as a child and adult in the next episode. I know form the promo stills we see a dark haired woman standing behind Young Snow Queen as she appears to talk to rumple but whether that is Helga or Gerda, I am not sure.
