Here are some things I walked away with after seeing this episode:
– Zelena is master manipulator. The Wizard was in her control the whole time. So when Dorothy went to him for help and he told her to kill the witch, Zelena must have orchestrated it that way to either get her shoes back or fake or death. Or both.
-Cora didn’t abandon her baby. To me, it seems she set the baby down and merely turned her back for a second, and like the Wizard said, a tornado swept the baby up. Cora is heartless but she isn’t that heartless to abandon her baby in the middle of the woods.
-Mysterious tornadoes are mysterious. You mean to tell me random portal tornadoes are just swinging around different lands taking people to Oz? Nuh huh! No, I think someone is behind this…
-Glinda is the master MASTER manipulator. She brought the wizard to oz, she stole Zelena away from Cora. Why? Who knows. Recall in The Wiz, Glinda is Cleary shown to have created the tornados that brought Dorothy… So maybe… >>
Also, this episode clearly takes place before The Doctor. Dont see how that was confusing to some…

Anyway enough of my rants on shipping back to the episode.
I really enjoyed the backstory of Zelena. She definitely seems like someone with emotional anxiety and issues. She;s powerful but she like a fire…out of control and easily inflamed.
Rumple was awesome playing it funny and cool.
Regina kicks behind all the time.
and that;s all I can think off.
April 7, 2014 at 12:49 am #259689GaultheriaParticipantThe tornado was made of green mist, like Zelena’s own magic. And since Zelena is planning to mess with time, I think it’ll turn out that she is responsible for her own fate when her history-fixing spell goes wrong. Or maybe the tornado didn’t transport the baby to Oz but instead was just Zelena’s failed attempt to retrieve her younger self.

So if Glinda is the master MASTER manipulator of OZ then Blue Fairy is the same thing in FTL. Hehehe.

I came out of this episode with several questions: 1. Something that probably wont be explained since Walsh is the wizard how did he know of happenings in enchanted forest? 2. how did he happen to get images of the players in our drama?
alsosomeone should inform Zeleena that she is breaking the time travel rule wrong. What you really need to do is collect three jeannie bottles. Then you will be all powerful and can kill people and make people fall in love and change history.
also, what exactly did the wizard want I am presuming it was ‘”bring me the dagger of the dark one” and was he not mad when she came back empty handed? rumplestiltskin has many things of value however so it could be anything, maybe he wanted the creepy puppet parents for marionnettes.
i sincrely hope we see the story of the wizard coming to oz.
also i thought that coara sent her baby in away in a magically created cyclone.
also should really be careful about being green with envy or else i will literally turn that colour by magic. (cuase rumple did not cause that oen dearie)
final thought: meat pies rumple seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not 12 years of relative happiness with his son, playing catch or hiding from the duke, not even that one moment i took ultimate power to help my son, but meat pies. someone dropped the writing ball there cause rumples story is more complicated than that.

April 7, 2014 at 3:45 am #259744puffyParticipantI liked it!
I think I love Cora more. She had to rip out her own heart because of losing her baby. Maybe she abandoned it to give it its best chance also since Rumple wanted her or because someone stole her. But she couldn’t go on with losing her baby and Rumple’s love.
The only thing that bothers me about that is TimeLine… When did Cora have time to sleep with Rumple, have another affair and get married? How did she hide that pregnancy? It doesn’t make sense.
I also think its beautiful that Regina gave her heart to Robin.
Its also kind of beautiful and sad that Zelena is just doing everything for a second chance. I feel bad for her. I think she’s an amazing actress. I didn’t like her at first but now she feels really convincing for her role. Alot of the ideas the writers threw out would’ve made a cheesy sequel to the original, like getting an unknown sister, having yet again the sister’s revenge story and Emma dating a flying monkey but they’re doing a good job of making past failed ideas in bad movie sequels or cheesy comic books good.
I actually really like Walsh now. If Walsh was genuinely in love with Emma in New York I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of them getting back together. The actor had a really great presence, I don’t think he’s not good enough for Emma. He’s interesting. I want to know more about his story. Plus, If Emma ends up with Walsh it gets rid of any predictable love story line. I find it cheap that the writers negated the Tamara and Neal relationship for her to not have loved Neal at all. It would’ve added more complexity if Tamara did have feelings for Neal and there was a part in the relationship that did mean something. I think the writers have chance to redeem themselves. I hope they find it with Walsh and Emma. I don’t like cheap cop outs.
But I think the Neal Fans are right as much as i hate to admit it. If Zelena succeeds in time travel Neal may end up with a second chance at life. I want to see Zelena win so I can see what she’s really going to do. Unlike Pan’s ultimate darkest bluff not coming true. But at the same time, I don’t want a cheap cop out. You can’t change the past makes things interesting because you have to accept all the deaths and bad things about these characters past. I think that’s a beautiful struggle in telling these emotionally rewarding stories. But just completely getting rid of all of that makes me nervous. OUAT created great stories and now that could all changed and any deaths that happened are cheap. The dead need to stay dead for it to mean something. With the exception of Rumple and Pinocchio because their deaths have different rules than regular mortals. Pinocchio is an inanimate object made out of wood and the previous dark one stated the terms of how the dark one would be able to die. I’m okay with their resurrection because their loopholes were stated at the beginning of their existence so it doesn’t feel cheap. Death for Rumple and Pinocchio have a different meaning than it does for humans.
Also If Zelena has been after Regina’s heart the whole time she had a whole year to take it to make her life easier. Thoughts?
April 7, 2014 at 9:39 am #259822once_dudeParticipanton your last comment about taking Regina’s heart and having a whole year:
1. What if Zeleena did not have her full revenge planned out at the beginning of that year and was spending most of the year researching how to time travel?
2. What if Zeleena was analyzing the players to see how she could get the other ingredients before taking on the “easy” ingredient of Regina’s heart?
3. What if the time travel recipe is specific and you have to have the ingredients in a specific order.

April 7, 2014 at 12:15 pm #259872puffyParticipantthanks @once_dude I hope the writers explain why she didn’t already do it. But I like your theory about the ingredients having to be collected in a specific order. Its very rpg. I would also understand that her ambition for a second chance be an after thought, after reconjuring Regina’s curse.
April 7, 2014 at 2:11 pm #259943FelieParticipantI’m not going to lie I thought this episode was crap.
First of all they gave no build up to the story of Zelena’s childhood, they just jumped from two Oz peasants finding a magical baby and deciding to keep it to, what… 18 years later? Was it a bad childhood? Abusive? Unhappy? We don’t know. One thing we do know is that, despite what everyone keep saying, Zelena actually did know love; her adoptive mother. From what her father said her mother had apparently loved her enough to treat her as her own child, to the point where she didn’t even want Zelena to know she was adopted. We have this huge gap where we are presumably supposed to just believe Zelena… suffered? I don’t know, you know why? Because there was absolutely no context given to anything the Oz characters did. It felt like everything that happened to Zelena to make her the Wicked Witch took place at her home, just a few seconds before leaving, and then with Rumple after he ‘dumped’ her. We weren’t shown any build up to her being bitter, she ‘just was’.
How are we supposed to see where Zelena is coming from if we didn’t even get to see how miserable her childhood was (or even if her childhood was miserable at all!)? Not only that, she actually seemed somewhat of a sweetheart before training with Rumple, only showing a bit of jealousy towards her sister when with the Wizard. She was all teary when she knew the Wizard was going to help her, and seemed genuinely happy about having a sister… for a few seconds at least. There was absolutely zero character development for any of the Oz characters during this episode, including Zelena imo.
As for her father’s constantly changing attitudes towards her; why, in a realm ruled by a wizard would he see Zelena as wicked? Again, there is no context whatsoever behind his attitude and behaviour. Was he hurt by someone magical in the past? Is he a member of a religion which sees magic as evil?
It seems that this episode is full of ‘just because’ –ness. Zelena’s mother decides to adopt her ‘just because’. Zelena’s father hates that his daughter is magic ‘just because’. Zelena is jealous of Regina ‘just because’. I can’t speak for other viewers, but I need CONTEXT in order to give a crap about characters and their behaviour.
P.S. Just a little something which confused me; during the wake when Emma and Hook were talking, how did they know the Witch was to ‘blame’ for Neal’s death? Did I miss something last episode where Rumple told Emma the Witch tricked Neal into killing himself?

"there’s lesbians in it"April 7, 2014 at 3:52 pm #259981KateGreenParticipantP.S. I think their just always blaming the big bad villain for everything. If Emma would not, she’d have to blame either neal or herself. I think I would choose the witch!
I think your right @Felie . Right after I watched the episode I was like “finally there is something about Zelenas past”, but then I realized that there are still more unanswered questions than answered ones. And that there are lot of scenes that don’t really make sense, like how Zelenas father is thinking of her as wicked or why she was jealous of Regina just one moment after she gets to know about her.
But I would’t call the episode bad or crap. Just the flashbacks! the realtime story in SB was good. I really enjoyed seeing Tink again… and the Regina scenes are awsome. She really trusted Robin with her heart, I think she’s really able to learn 😉 There is HOPE!
