I’m sure most people have caught on to the fact that each character’s name in Storybrooke somehow corresponds to their name in Fairy Tale world (or most of them at least). But there are also some who have the same. In this episode, Hat Trick, the king says “She is not the queen, her name is Regina.” Jefferson's name is also the same in fairy land and reality. We also saw, in episode 15 Red-Handed, how Snow White used Margaret–and then Mary as a fake name to give to Red.
I feel like this means something important. At first I thought it was only the characters who knew or believed in their past life that had the same name in Storybrooke. But that wouldn’t explain why Snow chose Mary as her “fake name” when Red asked her. Does Jefferson only go by Jefferson because he knows about the curse? Has he gone by Jefferson the entire 28 years? Has he even known about the curse for 28 years or did he slowly start believing over time?
I’ve just been stuck on this for a while and I think it’s something to ponder instead of blowing it off.

I think he knew his name so he introduces himself as Jefferson in SB. He said he could not come out of his house until Emma came. Now he is free to move about and can actually try to get back to FTL or the alternate reality. He thinks his daughter will be there but when he gets there his daughter is not there and that is why he is going MAD trying to get back to SB where he could at least see his daughter at a distance.

Are you guessing that he thinks his daughter will be there or did Jefferson hint at it? I’m only asking in case I missed something. I didn't even realize he was actually stuck in his house for 28 years. I thought he was speaking on behalf of the entire town of SB, but you’re right. I just rewatched it
He definitely wanted the hat to work but I don't think his intentions were to go through the hat alone. He wanted to take his daughter with him so they could be together. I Don't know if anyone has mentioned this on another thread but there is a very clear suction-cup noise when the MH falls out the window. So I'm 98% positive he went through, but he didn't take his daughter. The hat was obviously left behind in SB so how will Jefferson be able to get back? AND where did the hat take him? After listening to the podcast, I think ya'll were on to something when you said that Jefferson's house represented Wonderland. That’ll be interesting to see where that story goes…. or started…. or both. ๐

Mr. Gold obviously wanted a name change, so people wouldn’t know who he really was or suspect he remembers. Regina and Jefferson have both kept their names because they remember. I still wonder if Sydney (you couldn’t exactly call him genie in SB, although Gene might have worked) knows and perhaps that nurse in the basement of the hospital.
As for the Mary and Margaret references for Snow in Red-handed, I think that was just the story writers having fun. I don’t claim to be as clever as them, but I might have come up with that idea trying to think of things in a breakout session with a group. It just made sense to tie it in, and I admit I loved it.

March 27, 2012 at 7:56 pm #140028miaParticipantThey mentionend the name Easter in that episode? o.รด I do like the idea that Charming’s name really is David. We know it isn’t James or rather, that would be an aweful lot of coincidence.
March 27, 2012 at 8:15 pm #140034hjbauParticipantWait not Easter, but Ruth was her name. I knew it was one of those woman. I think she was David’s great grandmother in the Bible. I think it would be cool if they had Charming’s real name be David. It was in the press release. I don’t think they ever said her name in the actual episode.
