Neal’s age

I’ve heard a lot of chatter about the supposed age difference between Emma and Neal. But I have a little bit of research that shows it might not be as different as you think.

First off, haven’t the writers said that the show takes place in 2009. Let’s do a little bit of math here. 2009-11 = 1998. So that’s when Tallassee happened. Oaky.

I found this pic on tumblar, it’s a close up of his wanted poster:

I know it’s a little blurry, but it says he was born in 1977. Subtract that from 1998 and you get 21. So four years of an age difference isn’t all that bad.

For those of you who think this might mean he can’t be Bae (yes i’m coming back to that–i’ve been a SwanFire fan since about a second after I heard of the idea), there are three things you might want to keep in mind.

First off, it would seem that with portal jumping, time is not leaner. Jefferson was able to get the apple from right after it was used. I think the show is going for the “time travel is possible as long as you don’t change anything” path.

Second, I doubt Rumple would have tried for centuries to get here if there was no chance Bae was alive. There would be no point in it.

And last, Remember August’s trick? Remember what Archie asked Gold? “How old is he” and all Rumple could say was “let’s try something a bit easier” even Gold wasn’t sure when exactly in the timeline the curse would spit them out.

I think the most significant thing is that he was born in 1977, then he would have come here in 1991, which was when Disney’s Beauty and the Beast was released, and this would tie in with the Easter egg in Neal’s apartment with the NoMeanNo album having the song “Beauty and the Beast” on it.

Can’t really find anything about New Jersey like the person who wrote out everything either, but their flag does have a flame on it. .

Their motto is “Liberty and Prosperity” too which I find ironic if Neal is Bae because he’s not have very much of either in his life.

Kind of disappointed he’s listed as New Jersey and not Boston for his birthplace..
