Give Me My Remote is reporting that Chad Michael Collins has been cast in the role of Dr Whale/Frankenstein’s younger brother.
We know from the casting call that the character, called Gerhardt, is an “handsome, idealistic military man in his late 20s, with a family he loves.”He will make his debut in episode 12.

The “idealistic military man” portion intrigues me. Wonder if he’s been outside Story Brook all this time.
I wonder if the brother is going to be Jekyll and Hyde. They could twist it by having the brother have split personality disorder.

Well that kills both the theories that Ethan Embry would play Victor’s brother and that Gerhardt would be a young Maurice. 😆
Guess he’s gonna get torn up in a battle and that’s why Victor has to stitch him back together?

Yeah, I’d been hoping they might do that with his brother. Though that was when I wondered if the brother was a doctor too, so they could make him Dr Jekyll, and when he became the monster, he became Mr Hyde. But it turns out he’s a soldier, not a doctor, so that part of my little theory is bust now, (unless he was a medic in the army).

lol, although the only one I’m disappointed that didn’t come true was that Ethan Embry won’t be Victor’s brother. He looks just like him.
Well, at least we finally now know who Gerhardt is. I looked up the significance of the name:
a boy’s name is a variant of Garrard (Old English) and Gerard (Old English), and the meaning of Gerhardt is “spear-hard; spear-brave; spear brave”.
The name Gerhardt is in keeping with being a brave solider. If he died in battle that could be why Dr. Frankenstein made it his mission to bring back his deceased brother. He sounded like a respectable, upstanding man before he died, a bit like Dr. Jekyll. Before death, he was also a loving family man and a brave warrior. However, Dr. Whale said the first time he brought his brother back to life, it didn’t go so well, which is why he wants to return to his land to try again. What if “spear-hard” also refers to his brother’s new nature as a monster/”Mr. Hyde” mentality once he is resurrected?

OMG! When I saw the name Chad Michael Collins, I at first thought they had cast Chad Michael Murray. You have no idea how glad I am that my first impression was so wrong! LOL!
