If this is the case then the Rabbit has to be able to time travel AND portals can time travel as well, which we sorta already suspected given Bae and London and that mess but that A and E keep saying everything is parallel.
My head hurts.

Interesting thought. I was expecting a present day Cyrus to be seen only by mid-season at best, since the initial premise seems to be Alice’s search for him, but that could be as well.
All the (new) footage in the promo must have come from the brief pilot, which had to be in depth enough to demonstrate where the show would be going with the story and format. The purpose of it was to enlighten network execs enough to get them to officially sign off on the show going forward. Keeping that in mind, I figure they probably had to show that Cyrus is very much alive somewhere, otherwise ARK’s search for him, (which will make up much of the show), is totally redundant, and the show would be pointless. That’s what makes me think we’ll get confirmation of Cyrus’ whereabouts early on, and where better for him to be than in SB. That scene in Granny’s had to be in there for some reason.

Maybe portals can only hop through time if there’s a Rabbit with a magical pocket watch going through said portal?

The pocket watch, I agree, has to play into this. But the hat traveled through time as well. At least, it opened a portal back to the moment when Snow dropped the apple.

I know that’s what it looks like, but maybe it modern London and that scene just threw us. So no time traveling has to occur. Also: So there are pirates and mermaids in Wonderland? Or did Alice and Cyrus go to Neverland? Because there’s a certain one-handed pirate whose backstory I would be thrilled to have involved Wonderland…

Isn’t that the point of the necklace, though? At least the trailer seems to hint that.

Can we be certain that was really time travel, though, now that we know FTL was kept intact? I was thinking the apple, being magical, would’ve remained in that spot for years just as fresh as when Snow took a bite off it.

I think they went to NL for SURE. But I also think Cyrus and Alice’s adventures world hopping happen before the Curse hit, so it could be during the time when Hook was in FTL looking for Rumple. The flashbacks in OUATinWL are going to be more focused on Cyrus and Alice’s adventures together.
As to London of the past: I could swear I read somewhere that it is Victorian London. Someone else help me out?

I like that except that we see the portal open at the exact moment that Snow drops it and it rolls away. Regina had to visualize that moment in order for the hat to work. It had to go to some place she knew. And Regina told Charming in the season 2 opener that she honestly believed FTL was destroyed.

No one really knows how can a Victorian London for Alice works alongside a present day Storybrooke. We’ve considered time travel (but A&E said it wouldn’t happen on OUAT at least) and fictional London (but they’ve already had fictional characters, Wendy and her family, be living in the real Victorian England of 150 years ago), but no one has come to a conclusive guess yet. And yes, the reference to pirates and mermaids does seem to point to Neverland, especially with the doctor mentioning that Alice and Cyrus have travelled from world to world.

Here it is, it’s from the press release for ABC’s new shows, with the ‘Emma Rigby as Queen of Hearts’ error and all:
“ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND”
In Victorian England, the young and beautiful Alice (Sophie Lowe) tells a tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah smoking caterpillar and playing-cards that talk are just some of the fantastic things she’s seen during this impossible adventure. Surely this troubled girl must be insane, and her doctors aim to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget everything. Alice seems ready to put it all behind her, especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever — the handsome and mysterious Cyrus (Peter Gadiot). But deep down Alice knows this world is real, and just in the nick of time the sardonic Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) and the irrepressible White Rabbit (John Lithgow) arrive to save her from a doomed fate. Together the trio will take a tumble down the rabbit hole to this Wonderland where nothing is impossible.
“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” stars Sophie Lowe (“Beautiful Kate”) as Alice, Michael Socha (“This Is England”) as Knave of Hearts, Peter Gadiot (“The Forbidden Girl”) as Cyrus, Emma Rigby (“Hollyoaks”) as Queen of Hearts and John Lithgow (“3rd Rock from the Sun”) as The Voice of the White Rabbit.
“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” was written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (“Once Upon a Time”), who serve as executive producers. Steve Perlman and Zack Estrin also serve as executive producers, and the pilot was directed by Ralph Hemecker. “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” is produced by ABC Studios.
