The problem is that if it wasn’t in the book, they CAN’T pull from the 1939 movie. It’s an MGM thing, not Disney – hence the major problems unfortunately.
Yeah the movie, while iconic, isn’t Disney so for example they can’t use the following: Green skinned Wicked Witch, the ruby slippers, and maybe some of the dialogue that was written specifically for the movie and has no basis in the original
Well lets consider this… If she so Cruella,maybe her curse was to be unfashionable. No furs, no style. She walks around dressed as a frigid woman from the 1930′s. Cruella would hate that… But then again, I’m prepared to ser Cruella in Fictional London rather than the enchanted forest. I doubt the curse pulled her from there
Ah, but that means that the new villain was in SB all along and was cursed. I don’t think so. I think this new Curse brings her to town.

It seems that Warner Brothers owns anything that isn’t in the Oz books but as long as Disney changes things so that they don’t exactly match the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie, all is good. To get around the green skin issue they used a different color green and actually named the color and used the name of the witch in the movie as part of the name of the color. So I’m guessing if the Wicked Witch is going to be green on OUaT they will use the exact same make-up.

I guess that applies for the ruby slippers as well.

I read several articles and I can’t remember if the one on the law firm website said that the ruby slippers wasn’t an issue in the film since Dorothy wasn’t in it. So I don’t know if the term “ruby slippers” is trademarked so they could use “red slippers” instead. Or in typically OUaT fashion they could go with an entirely different color just to mix things up – or go with a different article of clothing . . . who knows???
At the end of the day they could choose not to have her be green at all. I mean Captain Hook doesn’t look like the Captain Hook we all think of, Little Red Riding Hood doesn’t either. There are so many twists in the show that we might never know what was done to get around copyrights or what was done because A and E had a radical idea.
Or I’m totally wrong and she is Cruella and none of this matters anyway!
If she is supposed to have green skin, then I’d wager she doesn’t have it NOW because of how magic works differently in SB. I’d be interested to see her flashbacks in Oz.
I still wonder if they’re going to do mash up between WWW and Glinda.

If she was, then she WOULD have been green and that wouldn’t give MGM ant problems because dark ones have greenish skin in OUAT. That is what I’m going with. MAYBE she is the only Dark One to have survived passing the curse on to another. And now she wants the curse back…. So she is in SB to go after Rumpel and curses everyone back to the EF to get them out if her way. She is a wicked witch indeed

FWIW, that green pendant I’ve been a bit fixated on, when it was broken, Evanora changed from being beautiful into a hag. So if they’re stealing the idea of that pendant, and twisting it up by giving it to WWW instead, perhaps wearing it will keep her looking non-green. Maybe it’s green because it’s containing all her green, (only half joking).
We are forgetting the whole Dark One theory about the witch. Remember people thought she was a dark one at one point. Doesn’t mean she couldn’t have been a Dark One. She may not be after Rumpelstiltskin but why would she just curse them all to EF and leave him behind? I wonder where he is. This is all assumption of course. WHAT IF the pendant is her version of the dagger? It fits with the Disney Oz movie, the necklace giving her power

Hmmm. That seems a little complex. The beauty of the “dark one” is its simplicity. You stab a person, you become the new dark one. And the power is tied to the dagger. If the current Dark One dies without a successor then the power vanishes into the ether. Also, where are you getting that she has cursed them to the EF? 312? From what we can tell no one actually GOES (in reality) to the EF in 312. From the sound of it, it’s a dream or an AU. Everyone is still in SB.
