There are plenty of other things that have used the Ruby Slippers. Wicked for example had shoes that were silver but later turned ruby red. They never referred to them as Ruby Slippers but eh. Sane thing with Theodoras ruby ring. Its a ruby because they are implying it will be used to fashion the ruby slippers for Evanora since her pendant was broken. But I’m sure they wont be called that

After all, they said the villain is Disney´s and even has a theme song. Well… Cruella does have a theme song. You know, the kind with actual lyrics mentioning the character´s name. It is pretty iconic. And it´s Disney´s. What´s more, A and E said that the second half of S3 was going to focus just on Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest.
I know Cruella might not seem like she can be a Big Bad, but let´s not forget that this is OUAT. This is the show that turned Peter Pan into a villain and Rumple´s sinister father. You never know what is going to be the next big twist. This is the show that tends to blow everyone´s minds. I wouldn´t put it past them making Cruella into something more sinister.
On the other hand, going with the clues eonline.com has been droping, I can only think of other two female Disney villains that have their own theme song of sorts and that´s Mother Gothel (Mother Knows Best) and Ursula (Poor Unfortunate Souls). But A and E said in an interview sometime before the S3 premire that they had three characters showing up sometime in the future. The characters that they mentioned were Ursula, Rapunzel and (yes) Cruella De Vil. Of the three we already have seen Ursula, we have an actress confirmed in the role of Rapunzel… and news of an actress set to play “one of the best female villians of all time, and not just in recent Disney history. (And that) even has her own theme music”.
Sounds like Cruella De Vil. And you know what they say: if she doesn´t scare you, no evil thing will.
One of the main reasons I’m leaning away from Cruella right now are the shots we have of Mader on set wearing a very up to date Mrs Gulch outfit complete with the emerald brooch.
It’s true Curella has a very iconic theme song but so does the Wicked Witch. Everyone knows the song despite having no words. Also the EOnline spoiler said outside Disney canon and recent: that brings to mind Oz the G and P and the original Oz movie we all know wasn’t Disney, it was MGM. So the “just not in recent Disney history” means that villain exists outside of Disney.
It could be Curella, sure. I think A and E could do big things with her. But with all the Oz hints over 3 seasons now and all the other spoilers we’ve mentioned my money is still on WWW.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"I think they got away with the references as implied because technically any shoes can be ruby and they weren’t specifying that it was those specific ones, and the Rufio comment – technically anyone could be named Rufio. We won’t be getting Rufio’s backstory though because he is specifically a character from the movie Hook which they love but can’t use. So I imagine the same is true of Neal’s line. It was clearly a nod to the movie, and he’s someone who might have some FTL knowledge / real world movie knowledge so it was fun while still on the border of what they can actually do.
I’ll be shocked if they get away with her wearing actual ruby slippers though. Absolutely shocked (though I suppose that nothing says she can’t happen to wear shoes but if they start going on and on about the ruby slippers I feel like they’re asking for trouble and I’d like to think they know which things they can and can’t use from Oz and the major differences between the book and the movie because that is THE big iconic difference (other than the part about it being a dream in the movie).
Unless it’s some weird Cruella/WWotW combo, I doubt it’s Cruella. I completely agree with the reasoning on all counts, but not sure how they’d make her a big multi-episode arc villain. It’s possible, but I think it’s the wicked witch, I really do. That outfit definitely looks like a modern day Mrs. Gulch for sure. I expect we’ll see Cruella eventually though, and her story will likely intersect with Archie since he owns Pongo. I wonder what happened to Roger but perhaps there’s a tie-in to him somewhere from Archie that we just don’t know about! I don’t expect it super soon though, even though I’m sure eventually they’d want to bring Cruella in. It is a classic after all.

The only way I could see them making Cruella a multi-episode arc villain is if they basically changed her whole story. They’d have to take the idea of her wanting to kidnap and kill dogs for a fur coat and twist about 20000%

She could be:
Glinda, who now that she has risen as the ultimate power in Oz with all the other witches dead and the wizard gone has taken the slippers and decided to move her reign to different lands.
Dorothy, who has survived Oz and with the slippers has survived the years and now found others like herself (fairytales) living in our land.
Wicked Witch of The East, who was the original owner of the shoes, and wears a green emerald pendant in the Disney prequel.
Wicked Witch Of the West, who (atleast from Oz the great and powerful theories) may have made the shoes from her ruby ring after Evanoras (east witch) emerald necklace was broken.
Ozma, the true ruler of Oz. She/He could totally have a Once spin to him/her. They could have been hiding in Oz all along as the different gender and bow that they have stolen something from Rumps shop (necklace?) they are out for revenge

Otherwise I would happily speculate that it’s one we haven’t seen much of but is beloved from the books! One of the things I love about OUAT is that not only does it let us revisit fairy tales and stories we grew up with, but part of the fun is finding where they got things and new things to enjoy. When I get some time (feels like forever away but I’m hoping) I really want to read some of these and see where they’re drawing inspiration from (not just from Oz but it’s making me curious about the books which is always a good thing!)
I think this is why many are leaning toward her being the Wicked Witch of the West though – the outfit and the theme music being a big part of it. I understand completely how Cruella technically fits that as well (Roger DOES write her a song!) but I don’t really see her as super menacing to the characters. I’d love to see the story brought in someday, maybe if Archie gets a love interest and said person is the owner of Perdita, but I really don’t see her story being a multi-arc thing unless they change up a lot of stuff.
As for the other options presented here, I’d certainly love to see them and if we are getting the Wicked Witch of the West and it’s a multi-arc thing, presumably for much of the 2nd half of the season, I really hope we get to explore a LOT of Oz (even though they’ve said a group won’t be travelling – we could still get flashbacks to explain other characters!). After all, they’ve been teasing it forever!

After that they go on to speculate a little about Medusa which makes it important elsewhere but for this particular thread, the fact that it’s supposed to be “one of the best female villains of all time” makes me more inclined than ever that it’s gotta be the Wicked Witch of the West. I’d be shocked at this point if it’s not.

Though if that rumoured deleted tweet from VCF actually happened, then perhaps they have actually acquired the rights to use the actual ruby slippers in their story? How much would that cost though? Maybe she was just wearing random, red shoes, and the actual magical slippers will end up being different? Or maybe the tweet never actually happened and so we shouldn’t put stock in it?
