Alright here we go: official headcanon. Cyrus was not exactly a nice momma’s boy back in the day. He was a romantic hearthrob who cared more about himself than anything else. Until his mother, Amara, lay dying. Then he snapped into action. Somehow he got a wish from a genie and he wished his mother would live. All magic comes with a price. Amara lived (immortal) but Cyrus was doomed to a life in the bottle as the new Genie. He was cast far across the realms and forced to serve his masters. This also helped temper his “bad boy” attitude and make him the kind and sweet guy Alice falls for. Amara, meanwhile, uses her immortality to learn of a way to break the laws of magic and free her son from his prison. Enter Jafar. But what she fails to understand is how far Jafar will go to to get what he wants. Snakey snake snake time, and Cyrus’s compass stops working and he thinks his mother has finally died somehow.
Head canon accepted!

I’m thinking that Cyrus actually included words like “never die” in his wish to save her life. Maybe, “I wish my family would never die,” and *poof* mum’s immortal and he’s a genie.
Weird that they had talk of Cyrus’ brothers, but there are none listed in the guest cast.

I thought this was strange too. I was looking at the cast list for his brothers when I saw Amara listed.
I think you are right RG that Cyrus wasn’t always a nice guy. I wonder if Amara was good & her quest to free Cyrus turned her bad or if she was always that way.
February 25, 2014 at 6:00 pm #247843obisgirlParticipantThat’s another possibility too.

wouldn’t that so totally be ONCE-ish though? We were introduced to Amara as this wicked witch type figure who got the wrong end of the deal with Jafar and it turns out that all she wants is to free her son? And to make it more ironic, the man who ends up–in a way–freeing her son, did it with the help of his snake staff, which is actually Amara.
Dang. That’s…plot thicky goodness.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 26, 2014 at 1:32 am #247949PheeParticipantWeird that they had talk of Cyrus’ brothers, but there are none listed in the guest cast.
It’s possible they will appear in the episode and just aren’t listed. The press release for “Bad Blood” didn’t include Ulima, the Sultan, or Mirza.
It didn’t? Guess if there’s a precedent for it, then maybe there will be a brother or two in the ep after all. I was kinda liking the idea that all of the brothers got trapped as genies, and those are the specific genie vessels that Amara was trying to collect.
February 26, 2014 at 8:55 am #247996RumplesGirlKeymasterI’ve tried posting that news about Rafi (and other characters) in the filming thread a few days ago, but my posts don’t appear. I tried to post it again earlier, and it still doesn’t work. :/
Oh dear. 🙁 If you send me the info I can post it for you, and I’ll message Daniel the Admin to let him know

And Payne plays ‘Captain of the Guard’ a pivotal character in the endeavour to get Alice home in a highly anticipated episode of “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland”
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 27, 2014 at 9:45 am #248391PheeParticipantThought the name Nyx sounded familiar.
Nyx (Ancient Greek: Νύξ, “night”) – Nox in Latin translation – is the Greek goddess (or personification) of the night. A shadowy figure, Nyx stood at or near the beginning of creation, and was the mother of other personified deities such as Hypnos (Sleep) and Thánatos (Death). Her appearances are sparse in surviving mythology, but reveal her as a figure of exceptional power and beauty. She is found in the shadows of the world and only ever seen in glimpses.
