If this is the case my theory was right. He would have not been affected by the curse if he was “gone”
What on earth is in that lil box? Looks like figurines of two people. Has Rumple been testing potion recipes already?
I dunno what that thing actually is by August’s shoulder, but the shape of it kinda looks like a head with a loooooong nose, and it’s pointing right at him. 😉@a web over her face wrote:

if Rumpel is giving Baelfire the dagger and August has the dagger in the promo — I think that makes it pretty obvious about who the Stranger really is.

ME TOO!!! I love the idea of August being Bae. It’ll add an extra element of tragedy and angst to not only Rumpel’s story, but August’s as well.
I would agree that it looks as if August is Bae….but how can August be Bae if the writers have stated that “Desperate Souls” took place centuries before the curse was enacted?
As much as I would like August to be Bae I think that those promotional photos combined with the promo for the next episode contradict this theory. From the photos we can see that Bae saw the dagger and actually held it. In the promo August was looking at the picture of the dagger probably so that it would be easier for him to find it.
If he was Bae, he wouldn’t need the picture. Bae knew what the dagger looked like. Only a person who hadn’t seen the dagger before would need the picture to recognise it.
