I’m conflicted….literally conflicted on this teaser. It didn’t make me excited, but it was a little interesting to catch my attention.

Good. I hope she falls apart a bit more, finally TALKS about some of the choices she’s made, realizes the error of some of her ways and gets back to being Emma Swan but more fully realized and without needing another to control her story.PLEASE, let Emma be the one who is getting treatment from Archie this season!

Liked:
– The flying carpet. Not having seen OUATWL, this is my first OUAT flying carpet. I found it oddly thrilling.
– Jafar. Again, it helps not having seen OUATWL.
Mixed feelings:
– Casting of Aladdin. Not quite what I expected. Still, maybe he’ll grow on me.
– Aladdin as the Saviour. This came out of nowhere and has no direct connection with Aladdin’s mythology. It also looks like the show’s ‘Saviour mythology’ will be updated this season, which is worrying after what they did with the Dark One mythology last season. Plus, we know that Emma’s going to get a happy ending, so it’s hard to get concerned about ‘Saviours don’t get happy endings’.

I think it looks slightly better than what it was on WL, where it just looked a little bit…uncomfortable, but here it looks a little more believable. I really liked it.

Idk if its just me but there is something about his voice that I don’t like. I mean he looks promising, and I’m sure the actor is great, but when he talked it wasn’t what I was expecting. Jafar (both Naveen and Oded) spoke with this perfect kind of…slow, enunciated speech that has a bit of force and threat to it, just like the Disney character.
And honestly, I can take the recast of Jafar….but I’m still questioning why they had to recast the stick. I know its such a petty thing to think about. Like, I know his old one isn’t a stick anymore, but I think I liked the design on that one better. But then again, this one looks thicker and heavier, so I guess I like it. Depending on where this takes place in the timeline, it will only make sense if the staff looks different after the events of WL (which means he got a new one). If its before…I guess Amara had a makeover.

.I like the Aladdin casting. The guy was in an Australian movie a few years ago. His character sort of reminds me of Aladdin looking back now.

It’s hard to tell because he only sorta mumbled a few words, but it sounds like he might just be using his usual Aussie accent?

The stick re-cast is bugging me too. For those who didn’t watch WL, the snake staff is actually Amara, who took in Jafar when he was an orphan and she’s the one who taught him magic. Eventually he turned on her, turned her into a snake, and the snake became his staff. So basically, his staff is magical because there’s a sorceress named Amara trapped in it. But eventually she gets freed from it. So if he’s now waving around a different magical snake staff, that just feels rather retcon-ish.

I’m trying to fit how this could possibly work with what we know from WL and this “Many Years Ago” thing is so vague and annoying. Like, WL took place during season 2 of OUAT, so that’s 2012 if I’m not mistaken, and thus 4 years ago, which could technically be many years ago. Maybe Jafar really is/was Aladdin’s Genie and he freed Jafar from the lamp?

Except In-show Timeline wise, it hasn’t been 4 years. It has been roughly 9 months – 1 year (If that).
