I’m trying to fit how this could possibly work with what we know from WL and this “Many Years Ago” thing is so vague and annoying. Like, WL took place during season 2 of OUAT, so that’s 2012 if I’m not mistaken, and thus 4 years ago, which could technically be many years ago. Maybe Jafar really is/was Aladdin’s Genie and he freed Jafar from the lamp?
Except In-show Timeline wise, it hasn’t been 4 years. It has been roughly 9 months – 1 year (If that).

I keep forgetting that time has passed differently in the show. So this 100% has to take place during WL or before WL then? Okay… so….how does Princess Jasmine fit into this? Wouldn’t she need to be Jafar’s sister to still be a princess (which honestly, I wouldn’t put past this show. For non-WL fans, Jafar is the son of the sultan of Agrabah in the once-verse). If this is before or during WL, then Jafar is still after genies to complete his goal, so okay perhaps that explains how he and Aladdin know eachother (he wants Al’s genie) But…you know idk. I just don’t know whats going on or how its going on anymore. Aladdin is a savior, Jafar is a prince, the stick gained weight. I just, Idk.

Yeah appears they stated again yesterday, they are still in 2013 in teh show, so they are not in 2014 like many people say, this show is awful with dates, timelines and math * looking at you Hnery, your timeline is a mess, with being 2013 and having 13 you were born before your parents meet*
So if he’s now waving around a different magical snake staff, that just feels rather retcon-ish

I really wish they would go ahead and do a two-three year timeskip just so Henry’s age could catch up to Jared, but then again, I don’t because I fear it would be yet another amnesiac curse happening!

You didn’t watch WL, huh? 😉 The Sultan had 2 sons, Jafar and his half brother. Jafar’s mother was a poor woman who died when he was a kid, and on her death bed she told him that his father was the Sultan, so he should go to the palace and he’d be looked after. The Sultan believed the Jafar was his kid, but refused to acknowledge him as his son and treated him like crap. The Sultan had another son, who lived in the palace and was his heir. The Sultan ended up drowning Jafar, and when he believed he was dead, he had his body tossed out with the trash. But Jafar wasn’t dead, and when he was all grown up, and all full of magic, he went back to the palace to confront his father. That’s when he kidnapped the Sultan and killed his half brother. So once Jafar was done, the Sultan and his heir were both gone. (Jafar kept his father locked in a cage until such time as he’d managed to collect the genies in order to change the laws of magic so he could FORCE his father to love him. After which he killed him.)
And I don’t think we were ever told who the new ruler of Agrabah ended up being, but I would assume it would have been a sibling of the former Sultan’s if one existed?

XD I didn’t focus on anything but Will & Anastasia, so I mainly caught up on their story alone! LOL! I don’t think we’ve seen the Evil Cousin Plot done on OUAT yet, so my next guess would be yours @Phee about the Sultan having a brother.
I just really need them to get this story right, and I hope they don’t try to go for shock value as they always do…..we really don’t need Jasmine turning out to be the Genie, who Aladdin freed and fell in love with, but genie laws prohibited them from such a thing so Aladdin made a deal with Jafar, and that’s where his downfall was or something.
