I think that action is only suited to a supporting role in this series. This is a puzzle show with a strong character component, an intertwined set of relationship mysteries. Regina’s smile is far more menacing than an army of ogres could ever be.
While in theory I’d like the show to go big like this with the stakes in why Rumple brought magic back for sure, I agree that unfortunately I don’t think that they do action that well. In fact, I felt that the last two episodes were really off in comparison to the few episodes that came right before like “The Return” and “The Stranger” because they tried to fit too much action in them, and some the action scenes just weren’t that interesting like the whole storming the castle story in “An Apple Red As Blood”. So I agree that when they reveal one of the answers to a big mystery, they do a much better job in general.
There’s also the many inconsistencies that unfortunately pop up again and again, so I think that would only multiply if they tried to do a show with multiple worlds not just three worlds (FTL, Earth, and Wonderland) so far along with many characters from those other worlds we haven’t seen yet. I think they would be fine in tiny amounts like they did in “Hat Trick”, but I don’t know if I would trust them if they started focusing heavily on those multiple worlds.
It would be very interesting concept though if done right, but right now I’m okay with the show just primarily being a puzzle show with a strong character component because I still think that there’s a lot that they can do there.

He persuaded Regina that these two features of the curse would give her control over everyone from FTL, and that’s why she accepted them, but in fact he realized that everyone would be safer and saner in an isolated town, not remembering their pasts, than in an actual city, thinking they were still FTLers.

Regina has Cora imprisoned or locked away somewhere and Regina found a way to strip Cora of her powers without killing her.July 9, 2012 at 2:17 pm #150052SlurpeezParticipantI call that King George is the greedy king from the original Rumpelstiltskin fairy-tale and that he was married to Cora, who is the miller’s daughter from that same story.
I also call that the Blue Fairy has always remembered her FTL identity. She used her magic to ward off the effects of the Dark Curse and thereby was able to preserve her memories of another life, despite being captive and without magic in SB.

That sounds good to me. Maybe, as an older and greater power than the Dark One, she is even inherently immune to Rumpel’s magic.

I’m going to have to reread the theories after some time away to make sure about which of those aren’t already called. Having a way busier summer than anticipated. Really great to read everybody’s “chatter”. Hopefully will be caught up to page 7 within the week 🙂
July 26, 2012 at 6:47 pm #152535SlurpeezParticipantI call that Baelfire's mother left him and Rumpel for Captain Hook and ran away to Neverland. That would mean Captain Hook could also be Baelfire's biological dad.
