You had to figure ABC’s Once Upon a Time and its eagerly anticipated upcoming spinoff Once Upon a Time in Wonderland would cross their creative streams at some point.
But you’re not going to have to wait long for elements of one show to appear into the other.
Get this: The first episode of Wonderland currently starts in Storybrooke. We’re sworn to secrecy on details beyond that. But let’s just say that while the two shows will maintain clear and separate identities (it’s important to ABC and the showrunners that Wonderland can stand-alone with its own easily accessible story) this won’t be the last time the world Once Upon mingles over to Thursdays at 8 p.m.
I’m hedging a little about the exact placement of the Storybrooke scene in the Wonderland pilot because, as Once Upon fans know, a full episode has not yet been shot, so the order of the scenes could change from the presentation screened for ABC executives. In fact, we’re told producers only filmed 19 minutes of footage from the story they mapped out in December for the Wonderland premiere episode. That’s pretty rock star — landing a spot on ABC’s fall schedule without even shooting half an episode! See the Wonderland trailer cut from the presentation here.

I bolded the most interesting excerpts. Totally excited for the spin-off! 🙂

I’m really curious to see where the show’ll fit in the timeline and continuity. Nagging questions I have that I still haven’t found an answer:
– Alice is supposedly locked up in mental instituiton in Victorian England. Is that meant to be the real Victorian England – meaning she’s from the 19th century – or the Victorian England of her story?
– What are they doing in Storybrooke?
– Michael Socha’s character is named Knave of Hearts. What does this mean to Paul McGillion’s Knave of Hearts? Is he a recast? A different character? A younger version of Paul’s character? Alice said she once returned his heart in the trailer, this has to be a Cora connection.
May 15, 2013 at 3:27 pm #194601RumplesGirlKeymasterOh yes. The t-word is going to explode over this (Keb…prepare yourself).

Could it be Fictional London like from Bae’s adventure in SSTR??

That one’s confusing as well – Bae’s destination was intended to be The Land Without Magic, but then he finds the Darlings, a fictional family, there? – but slightly less. Bae’s travelling to Neverland more or less accounts for him being almost as old as Rumple and still be living in the 21st century when the time in both FTL and TLWM is synchronized. But how does one make sense for Alice if she’s also meant to be from LTWM? Did she spent just as much time in NL as Bae did? The trailer did mention pirates and mermaids, after all.
We really could use a tweet to Adam to solve these nagging riddles. 😀

Most likely the bit in the trailer that appears to be a hole blasting up through the floor of Granny’s Diner, I suppose? Will be interesting to see where it fits in the SB t-word. Obviously after anything we’ve seen thus far, but how long? And will Granny make a cameo appearance if it starts in the Diner?
May 15, 2013 at 7:58 pm #194689katbadgerParticipantI wonder if the Knave of Hearts character was trapped in Storybrooke because of the curse and that is where our story will begin? In the trailer/promo pics he appears to be wearing very modern clothing as opposed to the clearly old-fashioned outfits Alice and the others are wearing in the Victorian setting. I know it wouldn’t fit with the timeline of the Knave of Hearts we saw before, but he was such a minor character I could see them rewriting his history to make him a bigger character in Once Wonderland.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

True! It seems to be more of a title than a name specific to him, so Cora might’ve gone through many. Hopefully that’s a story we’ll see through flashbacks.
Also found out that Lana Parrilla teased on her twitter that she might be appearing on the spinoff, but the tweets have since been deleted it seems 🙁 Possibly she’ll be appearing in the first episode, maybe in Storybrooke? Who knows how this show’s timeline will compare to Once’s.

Good catch! Leather jackets weren’t all that common in Victorian London.

Hmmm, if Lana’s gonna be in a SB scene, then it’s gotta be set some time before the season finale. Or maybe she’ll be in FTL, or even WL? Judging by that brief shot of The Red Queen, I could totally believe that she and the EQ had Skype sessions to talk fashion. 😉
