I will conceded that Eddy is explained how haunted Gold was, but I didn’t see any props for his sacrifice, just that he did the only thing available to him.
Rumple may have tried every avenue available to him to avoid death like trying to murder Henry in 2×21 (it’s his “nasty habit of self-preservation”), but by 3×4, Rumple was truly ready to face his fears. By 3×8 he walked into Skull Rock to face his dear old dad, thinking he’d found a way to defeat PP with Pandora’s Box, only to be ticked and trapped himself. But by 3×11 when PP locked him in the anti-magic cuff, Rumple realized he had but two options: cut of his hand to get back his magic or face his destiny like a man without any magic by stabbing PP and himself with his dagger. The old Rumple turned to self-mutilation to get out of the Ogres War and relied on magic to save Baelfire. The new Rumple forwent self-mutilation and magic to finally face that prophesy that “the boy” (aka Peter Pan) would be his undoing.
I agree with that, and I hope Adam and Eddy agree…….I was just so proud of him. He had his Belle and his son in his life – had it all, really – but their lives have always been more important than his. If he had used magic, the fight with Pan would have continued indefinitely – and Belle/Bae probably would have died regardless. Ugh, he was so brave, knowing that the only way to end the reign of terror was to sacrifice himself…… He made the decision and his conviction in everything he said to Pan (I don’t need magic, etc..) was beautiful. When Gold told Pan Daddy that he was ready (to die basically) and thrust that dagger into Pan Daddy’s back, I thought that was the most extraordinary thing. I just love him so much…..
I can’t wait to see Belle and Bae bond……aside from needing to share their grief, they can give each other what the other needs. Bae can discover the man he has never known, the man who has fought so hard to overcome his curse and his self-loathing to become the best version of himself (better than any version even that had existed), the man Belle has always seen. Belle can get to know the man Gold was pre-curse, the spinner, the adoring father……and perhaps what led him to curse himself. Plus, I think Bae needs a maternal figure in his life…….

Um. No. He *thinks* he is a very difficult man to love because people get walking out on him. But in actually, he’s very easy to love. Milah did love him once. Cora did love him once. Belle loves him always. Nealfire loves him always.

Well I don’t think Eddy was using the haunted part to explain why he’s difficult a lot……..He’s just saying that Gold was haunted by his past.
That said, I’m tired of this meme about Gold being difficult to love – they (Eddy) say it all the time. Also, love isn’t supposed to be “easy”.
IMO, when they say he’s “difficult to love”, I’m fairly certain they’re referring to people who truly would love Rumple/Gold (the man) post- curse (Neal/Belle). It’s just really a bland comment and doesn’t explain why they think he’s difficult at all. Difficult because he finds it hard to accept love based on his past? Who can blame him? Anyway, I resent that because they spit out these words that Gold has said as if it’s the truth. I mean, Gold has said he’s a coward, many times……and I have never believed that. Just because he says it doesn’t mean it’s true….He HATES himself and so you can’t believe his opinion about himself.
February 8, 2014 at 4:18 pm #243845HappyEndingsSpectatorHere is another thread on Rumple https://oncepodcast.com/forums/topic/mr-goldrumpelstiltskin-character-analysis/
Perhaps more discussion on him should go to that thread we are suppose to get some more information on other things so I would hate to have this like that filming thread where you can’t see the new information.
February 9, 2014 at 9:09 am #243897Marty McFlyParticipanttheres no new information to see, HE, we will get the full interview when its available through the link on the first page. here we will just discuss what the interview said, and unfortunately, all we got so far as a sneak peek of the interview is this nonsense about Gold letting go of his child for power nonsense.

Adam: We sure hope so—he’s not going anywhere
Did Adam just pretty much confirm that Hook is 100% safe from the spoiler-which-shall-not-be-named?

I did a double take at that too! But would he really be so careless as to give that away?
