Once Upon A Time game

I think it was Obisgirl and a few other people who some time ago suggested the idea of a Once Upon A Time game (sorry I don’t remember and I couldn’t find the original post in a search). Well, be careful what you wish for; I have now produced the first version of Once Upon A Game. It’s an online computer game which you can play at http://www.onceuponatimespace.com/oncegame.html

As you can see, it’s still in a very crude, early version. At this point it does little more than spit out a few random phrases, somewhat like a simpler version of the game “Mad Libs” (or an even simpler version of the computer program “Racter”, which famously wrote a book entitled The Policeman’s Beard is Half Constructed.) But I thought I’d go ahead and make this version available, limited as it is, while I work on improvements. Maybe it will give you a chance to waste a couple of minutes and get a chuckle – some of the things it says are just pure nonsense but a few are fairly funny. And the comments it reports do affect the status of the game’s characters in a limited way. Later versions will hopefully allow for more detailed effects upon the characters. If you click the “About” button on the game, you can read about some of the improvements I hope to make.

I’ll post updates here as I find time to make improvements. First on my list are adding more characters and implementing the two activities mentioned in the “About” text: Belle’s Library Mystery and Snow White’s Archery Battle (I’ve worked out the algorithms for both, but I haven’t yet written the code for them.)

Glad you enjoyed it. Some of the lines can be pretty funny. When I was testing the code, the first line it gave me was, “Henry eats a typewriter” so I almost decided to make that the name of the game. But my favorites so far are: “David confuses a pig” and “Mr. Gold sits on a dagger.” Ouch!
