I had a theory earlier while listening to the roundtable.

We know that Wonderland is going to be featured in about a dozen episodes this fall.

We also know that the creators have mentioned the portal doors that we’ve seen during season 1.

What if we are going to get a spin-off for many of those doors? We are guessing two of the doors lead to Wonderland (2013 spin-off) and Oz (2014 spin-off?). What if other lands (i.e. Land without Color or Agrabah) will be featured in future spin-offs? That way, they can tell those stories without cluttering up the main story.

I don’t know if i like or hate the idea 😀 on the one hand we would finally see all of those other lands that I am dying to see; on the other hand we would miss out on interactions between “our” FTL-characters and the new ones.

An interesting idea but I think that might be a bit expensive for ABC. Each new spin off would require new sets, new actors, new writers (because H and K and their team are staying on the original) and new everything else. I’d much rather see our little band of heroes go to Oz as part of their story. The OUATinWL looks really good and I’m excited to see what it does but I’d rather just have two shows.

That was likely the initial idea, with previous hints pointing towards it airing during a December-March hiatus of OUAT and Adam and Eddy mentioning that the show would be akin to American Horror Story, with each season having a beginning, middle and end, but who knows how much of it is still valid?

The show now has a timeslot in ABC’s regular schedule and it’s getting quite a bit of attention, being second only to Agents of SHIELD in expectations, it might turn out to be a series as regular as OUAT after all. I wouldn’t worry about the 13 episode order, that could very well be because OUATinWL is a new show in a timeslot not very gentle to ABC these last few years; for all we know, we might get the last 9 as ratings prove to be satisfactory.
