Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (8-9pm – 5.7 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49): During the 8 o’clock hour, ABC’s debut of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland topped NBC’s comedies by wide margins (Parks and Recreation/Welcome to the Family = 2.9 million and 1.0/3) in Total Viewers (+97%) and Adults 18-49 (+70%). The Wonderland premiere gained young adult audience (+6%) from its first half-hour to its second half-hour. Given the strong TV playback gains for Once Upon a Time, the ABC drama spinoff will likely see a substantial increase in the L+3 and L+7 numbers. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland improved its time period over the year-ago night with Last Resort by 6% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/5 vs. 1.6/5).

I’m betting ABC is waiting to see L+3 and 7 numbers before deciding to move their schedule around. I wonder what their goal was. WL did do better than previous shows in that time slot. It’s probably the worst slot in weekday TV so ABC had to have small expectations.

Now the ratings have come in, and they’re low per usual for that Thursday time slot. When is ABC going to accept that their Thursday 8/7c time period is inhospitable to scripted fare? The original plan to air Wonderland while the original Once is on hiatus seems better to me. Or if they want Wonderland to be in contention for a 22-episode season, they should move it to Sundays and maybe bump Revenge to 10/9c, which would solve their Sunday problem (Betrayal). I just can’t shake the feeling that Wonderland would have done better in another time slot. How many good shows need to die there before they just plug in Wipeout and call it done? — Jake
Matt Roush: Here we are, back in junior programmer mode. You’re probably right that Wonderland would have been better suited as Once Upon a Time‘s hiatus place-holder between story arcs, but airing as a two-hour Sunday block would be way too much of an iffy thing, even if it would effectively purge the schedule of the dreary Betrayal. And while it’s probably inevitable that ABC will fall back to Wipeout to fill that Thursday hole (though not until Wonderland gets to play out its story, I’m betting), the network will almost certainly keep trying to land a scripted show there — if only to appease the sales department, which might prefer to target even a smaller upscale audience on a crucial night than the broader demo Wipeout generally attracts.

Everyone is predicting we get canceled and they’re probably on to something. But this guy seems to think that ABC will let the show play out its 13 episode run if only because nothing else can go there.

Better than nothing, I guess. Still, I had expectations that ABC would order a few more episodes for this season of Wonderland, but if these ratings stick it seems really doubtful. 🙁

In week two news, ABC fantasy drama “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” slipped to a 3.2/ 5 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which was 11 percent below the disappointing 3.6/ 6 opener (on Oct. 10) and 33 percent below failed year-ago drama “Last Resort” (4.8/ 8 on 10/18/12).
Last week in our demos we got a 1.7. Sadly I think we except to see it lower this week, around a 1.5 or .6 It’s totally on the chopping block but I also think ABC knows that have nothing else to put in this slot that’s going to do any better. They MAY let WL play out. More numbers as we get them.

And more importantly, I hope ABC allows Adam & Eddy to finish their planned storyline. I would hate to see Wonderland tragically end with a cliffhanger.

October 18, 2013 at 12:01 pm #216924obisgirlParticipantI liked episode two. I hope ABC moves the show to a different time slot where it has a better chance of surviving.
October 19, 2013 at 1:34 pm #217150RumplesGirlKeymasterFinal Live+next day ratings for 102 Trust Me
We went up .03 in viewers (4.50 million to 4.53 million) and stayed at a 1.2 ratings share
According to Adam on Twitter, they are currently filming 108. The fact that they are still filming 8/13 episodes to ME (at least) means ABC is gonna let it play out.
@naveen_andrews about to start shooting ep. 108

In week three news, ABC fantasy drama “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” slipped to a 2.7/ 4 (#4) in the 8 p.m. hour, which was 16 percent below its week-ago telecast and 39 percent below failed year-ago drama “Last Resort” (4.4/ 7 on 10/25/12). Three-week overnight track for “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland”: 3.6/ 6 – 3.2/ 5 – 2.7/ 4. All together now: Tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking
