If you’ve ever dreamed of life in the English countryside-Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
If you like Mad Men- Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
pride and prejudice and heartbreak- The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
thrilling- The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy
beauty in the eye of the beholder- Hyla Brook by Robert Frost
Reading right now: The Defining Decade by Dr. Meg Jay (non-fiction) very enjoyable.
on its way to me: Revolution from Within: A book of self- esteem. This will be my official introduction to the feminist icon that is Gloria Steinem.
on my wish list: The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
Curiosity- The Hunger Games series.
Having trouble finishing: The Golden Compass
Wanted to love but don’t: The Fountainhead, Catcher in the Rye, Madame Bovary, To Kill a Mockingbird (got raked over the coals by my English teacher for that last one).
Keeper of Regina's blackened sole special.
If you like the idea of a twisted take on Peter Pan, “Tiger Lily” by Jodi Lynn Andersen was really good. It’s the story you recognize but all through Tiger Lily’s perspective, though narrated by Tinkerbell.
I really recommend “The Bone Season” by Samantha Shannon. It’s getting tons of hype right now and for the most part deserves it. It’s an alternate history dystopia with aliens and ghosts, ect. Fair warning: the first three chapters are the hardest to get through because the authors is just giving you information overload but once it settles in and starts explaining things, it’s really good. Also, use the 10 page glossary at the back, lol. I discovered it like 6 chapters in and it made my life easier.
If you want pure unapologetic romantic triangle fluff with no substance, “The Chosen” by Keira Cass.
Since my previous post on this topic, I recently read Fin & Lady by Cathleen Schine. It’s an emotional story of siblings and adoption.
Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea: Why the Greeks Matter by Thomas Cahill is nice little introduction to many literary contributions from ancient Greece, including some of the myths we have seen on Once.
some really cool suggestions here hmm lets see what i can contribute:
on subject of Enders Game and Hunger gAmes I loved them all.
if you have ever heard of inkheart by cornelia funke read it.
If you secretly wanted Home Office in season 2 to win and think that science can beat magic read Artemis Fowl its a great book series wherein magic is just advanced technology for the most part (e.g. invisiblity is camo-foil)
also i really think you must read Enchantress form the stars, it is science fantasy and explores the nature of bleief.
Finally, if you read none of my other suggestions read the Wrinkle in Time series by Madeline L’Engle. They are treasures that can be read at any age form 10 to 100. They may be science fiction but they are also philosophy about the nature of time, existance, family, love, faith, hope and anything really.
Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.
