We can’t forget Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, both book and movie versions:

Whether or not D and J actually go get together is up in the air–it is possible. However, it’s important to note that the son(g) of ice and fire is only Jon. Jon is not ice to Dany’s fire (Bran is….). And the song of ice and fire has nothing to do with a romance between RL except in their byproduct of J (and while I do think they were in love–well I know they were) they aren’t the song of ice and fire; the song of ice and fire belongs to TPTWP and that is what JON IS. And only Jon. That’s his role in the universe–he is the great balance.

Well, I won’t deny the importance of Jon’s parentage or the role he will most likely play. But this is still just a fan theory at the end of the day. Also, I think Mel got it wrong consistently when she said AA = TPTWP; I think that TPTWP and AA are two different prophesies, and therefore potentially two different people. In short, I think Jon = AA reborn and Dany = TPTWP (as Aemon came to believe). The coming together of J and D will result in the ultimate fulfillment of prophesy.

Also, I think the title Song of Ice and Fire has multiple meanings, which includes romance as well as magic. Incidentally, Martin has said that he was influenced by Robert Frost’s poem Fire and Ice

“ I mean… Fire is love, fire is passion, fire is sexual ardor and all of these things. Ice is betrayal, ice is revenge, ice is… you know, that kind of cold inhumanity and all that stuff is being played out in the books.

So I think the title includes romance: the romance between R&L as well as the future romance between D&J. Also, D is going to be betrayed for love at some point, and I think it may be by J, so I don’t predict it being a HEA kinda story. It will be very bittersweet.

Add to this Heathcliff and Kathrine from Wuthering Heights

I won’t bog down this thread with any more ASOIAF discussion but I agree with some of what you said, but again, I won’t bog down in pointing out some things that are highly debatable (read the fifth book, then come talk to me about AAR..)

Yeah, I know all this. Trust me. I read everything GRRM says and I debate ASOIAF on an daily (heck, hourly) basis. I’m not arguing against Jonerys. In fact I said it was possible and I’d go so far as to say that they will likely have some sort of connection outside of aunt/nephew. There is a romance at play, GRRM is a romantic but he does it in subvert fashions (Sandor and Sansa being a beatuy and the beast tale; Jorah and Dany being a subverted courtly love trope; Jaime and Brienne as the Warrior and Maid but incredibly messed up). The entire story is bittersweet, that’s how GRRM has said it will end. But I’m not going to bog this down. We can always PM if you want.

I also love John and Aeryn from Farscape.

Their first meeting I think set the tone for their relationship in the series. He’s human, she’s not but throughout the series, she learns to be more compassionate and more human than alien. John is the alien because he’s trying to navigate the universe without getting himself killed. They even sort of a had a true love’s kiss, to see if they were compatible (which of course they were).

Oh yes, these two. I prefer the 1980s version of the book (with Timothy Dalton) but any iteration is good. They’re classic.

There’s no beating the book itself, but I agree that the 80s version is the most faithful adaptation of the novel. And Timothy Dalton is my favorite Rochester. But there is something serenely beautiful about the 2011 film version, as well as something quite intriguing about Michael Fassbender’s portrayal as well.

    That voice….

But I do agree that Fassbender’s role was good as well.
