Also, technicall, even if he’s still cursed, he still has the choice as to his behavior……Isn’t it actually better if Gold becomes that best version of himself even without the curse actually breaking? It makes him, by doing so, much stronger than the curse -and frankly I think that would be a very powerful thing. The curse didn’t destroy him – it couldn’t, because he was such a good, kind and incredibly loving man with a huge heart. So if it never really destroyed him, he can overcome it. I believe in him. I believe he is a beautiful soul and that he may struggle, but his desire to become his best self will triumph.
Ideally, yes. But the way I’ve always thought of his curse is that it’s more than just a bad influence, it’s actually a parasite that latched on and fundamentally altered him. So in that sense, I think it’ll take more than just willpower for him to completely overcome it, he actually has to have it removed.
I think it will need to be a combination of both sacrificing his darkness and having it removed from him. And I think that is where PP and the prophecy of undoing is going to come in. Rumple sacrifices his Dark One’s self to save his grandson.

That’s a very vivid analogy, lol – and you’re probably right.

That would be lovely…….IMO Gold is just a man anyway, but in terms of being mortal and losing this identity he’s had for so long, you could see how he might wonder just who he is. He wants to be his best self – thanks to Belle, he has that hope that he can be. Although he might struggle with losing the DO identity, I think this would be so great for him because that is NOT who he is, it never has been. Without the burden of this curse, he can finally just be who he was meant to be – who he was before Milha destroyed him, before those villagers crushed him. It would be such an amazing storyline for he and Belle; they would take this emotional journey together. I think also that eventually he would learn to forgive himself and once he does that, he can ask for forgiveness from others.
It will be interesting to see what they do with the 2nd half of the season. I suspect since the first half seems to have a lot of adventure and……villainy in it, that the 2nd half (hopefully) will be more about relationships : between parents and children, between romantic partners (I will be bitterly disappointed as well if Belle is not a bridge between Bae and Gold), between the townspeople and the “leaders”…….. There’s going to be a sea change in SB, that’s for sure. Nothing will be the same. While the Charmings are gone, people who haven’t been given a chance to step up and do big things will be given that chance – and they aren’t going to want go back to being wallflowers when the JR returns.

I agree. I think the end of the first half will see the JR and company come back to SB where Belle and Nealfire waiting for them and then it will be all about relationships and fighting whatever danger is coming for them–in my head it’s the Home Office that exists in this world (in my crack theory it’s being led by Dorothy because they’ve hinted at Oz an awful lot for us not to have seen it or the characters yet)

Hmm, I tend to think the Home Office is part of the first half story and that it will end when the first half does. Adam/Eddy said that each 1/2 season will be completely separate, with beginning, middle and ends. The Home Office part of the story will involve Belle protecting the town.
I really prefer them to concentrate on relationships and forget outside danger – we’ve dealt with that enough as is.

Ah, but then who is the big bad? We need one to move into the finale of S3 and into S4. THO is in both worlds and I do think Belle is going to have her hands fulls fighting them during part one. But I think that war will escalate in part 2 and everyone–the entire cast–will have to flee to another land (please be Oz, please be Oz). S4 will take place, mostly, in this new land and then S5 finds back in FTL to take down the Ogres and any kind of ultimate big bad.

I don’t see Oz or any other world coming into play in the 2nd half; I think they will stick to SB then since for much of the first half of S3, they won’t be there. I think they’re going to want to re-establish SB – as it will be , IMO, quite different under Belle and co – and I don’t think they want to travel to another world in the same season. They can introduce a big bad or whatever in S4 or at the end of S3, 2nd half, but frankly I don’t think it’s necessary to have a villain ALL the time. There is plenty of drama to be had in interpersonal relationships – and I really think they need to concentrate on this. I will be livid if we don’t get real Rumbelle happiness, for one – S3 is a crossroads for me in this respect – and obviously we need to see Bae/Gold (with Belle as bridge; I will be upset again if we don’t get this). Of course there are other relationships to explore as well.
I personally would like to see Belle establish new relationships with the Charmings. With her having led and protected the town, having cared for the inhabitants, the Charmings can’t just expect things to be the same when they return. They can’t just expect to take over and everyone to relinquish their duties. I can see there being some tension there as people under Belle have accomplished things – and they love her.
I think its important to see SB start to be a real town. Let Belle reopen the library and make it a community center so that the townspeople have a place to……..hang out, lol. Let it be a shelter as well so that in times of crisis, everyone can gather together and not be alone. Build a movie theater, build more restaurants, lol – I mean, it’s one thing to be a small town, but SB isn’t small – it’s tiny, lol. Build an arcade…build a bowling alley, etc… You get my drift.
Adam and Eddy said that the first and 2nd halves of S3 are like different seasons, so since each season has a beginning/middle/end, I don’t see the HO story bleeding into the 2nd half.
June 16, 2013 at 12:55 pm #198497RumplesGirlKeymasterYes I’m aware of what A and E said. But all seasons bleed together, they have to in order to create a cohesive story. Season one ends with Rumple bringing magic and S2 is all about the consequences of that action. I think the roots and foundation of THO and how it relates to PP will be explored in depth for the first half. But there has to be something that ties the 1st half and the 2nd half together. As much as I want them to really pay attention to the relationships, that’s not how shows like OUAT work. They can’t put aside mythology and danger and just work on the relationship aspect. Eddy even said something similar at Paley this year where he said he’d love to write the scene where Emma and Snow go shopping but that it’s about story. I do think we’ll get a bit of a breather in the 2nd half, but there has to be a big bad, there has to be danger. My leading candidate is THO in order to tie the two halves together.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"June 16, 2013 at 2:13 pm #198508PheeParticipantYeah, there’s always gotta be some sort of threat to keep things interesting.
The more I’ve been pondering what they could have as a climax for S3, (getting ahead of ourselves much ), the more I’m thinking that it might be everyone relocating back to FTL, because THO’s invasion of SB has simply made the place so unsafe that it’s unliveable. So the end of S2 was a fakeout for the end of SB, but the end of S3 will be the real deal, after they’ve used the back end of the season to fully explore who THO are and how dangerous they are. Perhaps?
June 16, 2013 at 2:33 pm #198509kfchimeraParticipantI would like a storyline about power struggles in SB, but it could work with them trying to rebuild in FTL too. I do want action and adventure to continue in some way. I want there to be some new big puzzle–like Oz or how to stop the Ogres.

I want Oz so bad! 😆
The power struggle thing will probably always be around. Reformed or not, Regina still sees herself as a Queen and it will be hard giving up ruling.
