Remember we never found out what happened to Cinderalla’s husband at the well when they try to break a deal.
I also think the reason they didn’t have money is because of David’s dad didn’t want to receive money for what he just did.
Ruth and David are Bible names so there must be a connection some how with this line. Ruth married a close rich relative named Boaz per the Bible, then had a son named Obed who was the father of Jesse who was the father of David.
1) Ruth and Boaz
2) Obed
3) Jesse
4) David and JamesBut in this case they skipped Obed or maybe Jesse or both of of them in order for Ruth to be the mother of David, other wise she would have been David’s, Great Grandmother instead of mother.
1) Ruth and ?
2) David and James[adrotate group="5"]June 11, 2013 at 1:59 am #197850RumplesGirlKeymasterIt’s true that we never learned what happened to Thomas at the well, but in one of the podcasts–I can’t remember which episode–A and E said that he just disappeared and wouldn’t reappear until Rumple got what he wanted, so you can assume that Ashley and Thomas never saw each other until she gave birth to Alexandra.
As for the Bible names, yes that’s where they got the name for David because David was a shepherd who became a King. I would image that David’s father might have Biblical name to keep with tradition.

Jesse was the father of David in the Bible. So, perhaps in OUAT, David’s father was named Jesse.

I am perfectly happy with that. And then they can fit him into any mythology they want, Arthurian or NL (which seem to be the leading contenders on our board right now).

Which, incidentally, is a pretty fancy object for a peasant to have. So I could buy it if they go back and show that Charming’s parents did come from nobility somehow, or at least from wealth, and they ended up having to run away or were exiled or something, with none of their possessions, only what they were wearing at the time…including the ring.
Still don’t know who the grain merchant was whose daughter they wanted to have marry David.
Probably just a little nod to how Charming’s family would eventually end up tied to the family of the miller’s daughter. Even though David didn’t marry the grain merchant, some things are just destined to be. 😉

Yes, and don’t forget the necklace that Ruth gave to Snow in 2×3 “Lady of the Lake.” It has the power to predict the gender of a couple’s child before the baby is even conceived. Ruth said a gypsy had enchanted it. I wonder if we’ll see more of that backstory. The only gypsy I know of in Disney-lore is Esmerelda. In OUAT, there was the gypsy whom Rumple wanted to train as his apprentice until Regina went completely dark and then ripped out her heart in 2×5 “The Doctor.” Also, we’ve seen Regina disguise herself as an old gypsy woman, but that was well after Ruth and her husband had married. By then, David was full-grown.

Possibly, though Granny said it was a Wizard who gave the red cloak to Ruby. My thought has always been Merlin who gave Ruby the cloak.

If the Merlin guess is right, and if they’d also originally planned on having Snow and Emma in FTL longer, (which I think they’ve mentioned in an interview somewhere), maybe they had plans to bring back Lancelot as well? Until their focus shifted and they changed things up.
Hopefully they can still do an ep about the origin of Red’s hood at some point.

You’re right, Meghan Ory mentioned it in an interview she gave not too long ago. Snow and Emma were going to be in FTL longer than 9 episodes. I wouldn’t mind if the went further into Arthurian legend, though I don’t think it can be this season since the focus is so heavily on NL and I don’t want them to take too many toys out of the box.
