I don’t think this has ever been discussed here but there are lot of parents on OUAT who don’t listen to advice from their children.
I think it started with Emma, when she told Mary Margaret after David broke her heart in ‘The Shepherd’ to stay away from him and Mary Margaret ended up stalking David which was really funny, then there’s Jefferson not listening to the wishes of his daughter in Hat Trick (“I don’t need anything, just you Papa š “
Cora is the worst, taking a more active stance by ripping out Daniel’s heart and crushing it.
But in this past episode, (“The Return”) Rumpelstiltskin ignored the pleas of his son to give up his power and it cost him dearly, separating him from Baelfire.
I’m sure that there are other instances from this past season where parents didn’t listen to their kids and did the exact opposite of what they were advised.

All those parents were trying to do what they thought was right for their kids and they made things worse. Cora being the worst.

I think James made a comment that George could feed the whole kingdom with that crown he was giving him and he just ignores him.
and you know what still bothers me? Henry Sr. I like him because he’s good and kind but I’m sorry, when it comes to parenting Regina, I feel like he is weak (maybe because he’s afraid of Regina’s power). Especially in the past few episodes, he’s just there.

We never really learned about Graham’s biological parents since he was raised by wolves. But I think they can safely be added to the list.

Emma’s experience with the foster system is downright Dickensian. I’m especially struck by the across-the-board corruption of the kings and queens in OUAT.
But I do have hope for the parents after Gold’s apology to faux-Bae. Change is possible and perhaps when Emma starts to believe in her son’s claims, change will come. I wonder if Gold now will become a catalyst in getting the other SB parents to listen to their children.

ROFL at “taking a more active stance.” š
Seriously, though, that is a prominent theme. Hopefully we will see more parents listening to their children as the curse is being broken.April 30, 2012 at 8:59 pm #144893SlurpeezParticipantAdded to that list is Geppetto who didn’t listen to Pinocchio’s plea not to go through the wardrobe. He wanted to stay with his father and didn’t want to disobey the Blue Fairy. However, Geppetto was head-strong in his decision to save Pinocchio. If he had just listened to the Blue Fairy, however, Emma would have been raised by her mother, Snow White, to believe in fairytales. Then again, it wouldn’t be as interesting a story.
