We’re very likely getting Season 5. Even if the ratings for 4B are lower than 4A, it’s the overall ratings average for the entire Season that matters in the very end:
Oh we are absolutely getting a S5. Beyond that….that’s a little more iffy right now

Which certainly contributed to the season low for “Once Upon a Time” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall), even if the ratings for the fairy tale-themed series is adjusted up a tick in the nationals; a year ago, the show’s fall finale did a 1.9 in the demo. Despite the low finish, “Once Upon a Time” finishes fall up 13% vs. last year in adults 18-49 rating (3.6 to 3.2).

DECEMBER 14TH RATINGSOnce Upon A Time-12/14/2014 ABC 1.7 2219
.December 23, 2014 at 11:17 am #293924obisgirlParticipantDecember 23, 2014 at 11:27 am #293927RumplesGirlKeymasterAccording to the latest prediction poll for cancellation, Once did very well in 4A.
It did fine. It got a gigantic boost in 401 because of the Frozen hype. I’m not saying that A and E didn’t love Frozen and that the movie didn’t have themes that worked for ONCE, but it was also a very smart business decision on the part of the writers and ABC to bring Frozen in when they did. If Frozen had not been 4A, then our seasonal numbers would have been much lower. We started the season with a 3.8–which was pretty much all Frozen. Without Frozen it would have been around 2.4-2.7. Frozen gave us a big enough boost so that when we fell, and we did, it would take longer to fall below S3 numbers. So we hit the seasonal/series low in 411 instead of much earlier if we had not had Frozen. This is not to say that we still wouldn’t have gotten a season 5 without Frozen, but that cancellation prediction would have been lower (or less smilies if you’re a visual person)
S5 is more of less for sure at this point, so 4B has less pressure on it to really perform. Coming back from break we’ll see where we start–though my prediction is going to be a low 2 (2.2-2.4). We’ll stay steady for a few episodes and then the fall begins again but ABC is invested enough and ONCE does well enough (and did well enough during the Frozen arc) that they can justify the 5th season even if our numbers never go back to what they were in 401 (and they wont)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 23, 2014 at 4:18 pm #293945MatthewPaulModeratorThere’s no denying that Frozen was a smart marketing move, in regards to the ratings. As I said before, it’s the ratings average of the entire Season that matters. So even if 4B is significantly lower, the show is likely safe for at least a 5th Season thanks to how 4A performed. I’m sure ABC is also banking on the Queens of Darkness to help sustain ratings, since these are three of the most iconic Disney villains being brought to life. I think it’s unfair to judge their potential based on the performance of 411. 411 aired during a bad night for television with viewers already tuning out of TV for the holidays. I’ve even heard some mistake 410 for the Winter finale, since it wrapped up the majority of the Frozen storyline, so I’m sure there were a good number of people who weren’t even aware 411 was airing.
