Once Upon A Time (8-9pm – 8.6 million and 3.1/9 in AD18-49): Nearly quadrupling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 8pm (+288% over a replay of the prior week’s OUAT premiere),
ABC’s Once Upon A Time (3.1/9) took second to Sunday Night Football, beating CBS’ 60 Minutes/Madam Secretary by 63% (1.9/5) and Fox’s The Simpsons/Brooklyn 9-9 by 72% (1.8/5).
For the 2nd week in a row, Once Upon A Time was up from its year-ago telecast in Total Viewers (+8% – 8.6 million vs. 8.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (+19% – 3.1/9 vs. 2.6/7). The ABC drama was the #1 most social non-sports broadcast on Sunday with 81,442 tweets. Trailing only the prior week’s season opener, Once Upon a Time scored its 2nd-highest numbers since January 2013 in viewers and young adults – since 1/6/13.

Much like episode 401 this weeks episode, 402, was a polarizing episode. Some thought it was great fun and others thought it was ridiculous. And I’ve been reading basically the same around the internet sites/boards. So, I expect that it will once again drop, BUT…Elizabeth Mitchell’s appearance may be the thing that keeps it from dropping too much. My prediction for next week is 2.9-3.1.
yeah see I really liked it, but I know a lot of people around here didn’t care for it much.

I’ll post the graph whenever s/he updates. Here is the graph as it stands with S4 up to 402

They update it all Season based on a variety of ratings factors, and they tend to be fairly accurate. As it currently stands, Once is far from the in danger of cancellation territory, which could change by the end of the Season. However, I would think Once would have to drop A LOT for that to happen, as in dipping below the 2.0 demos. And even if the Frozen half of the Season remains fairly high, but the 2nd half takes a drop, the boost from the first half of the Season would factor highly into the Season average. The Season average performance is what they typically look at when deciding to cancel or renew a series. For example, even when Agents of SHIELD had sharp drops throughout its first Season, the higher numbers of the earlier episodes helped in the long run. :

I agree. We’d have to fall from where we started (3.7) to well below the 2’s—like 1.0-1.5 range. They did Frozen right now for this specific reason, IMO. They knew it would bolster the ratings and make it more likely to get a 5th season because we had further to fall.

It’s returned with very strong numbers, so it has a nice cushion before it’s future becomes worrisome. And OUAT holds its own when you think about the fact that it’s up against Sunday Night Football. Yes, OUAT and football are nothing alike, but football draws a lot of American eyes away from programming that would otherwise be watched by the household. Eyeballs are eyeballs – especially when they’re the oh-so-important youngin’ eyeballs advertisers want.
