There are a lot of Star Wars connections in Once Upon a Time, so I thought it would be fun to compile a list of SW references we have seen so far this season.
S01E03 Snow Falls
SW: Snow White is dressed very similar to Princess Leia on Endor.
SW: Snow White’s capture is almost exactly how the Ewok’s captured Han, Chewie and the rest in Return of the Jedi.
SW: PC “I have a feeling that the Queen is not as – Charming as I am,” is a variation of Darth Vader’s, “The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am, Commander”.S01E04 The Price of Gold
SW: Pure magic (according to Rumpelstiltskin) is pure evil. Emperor Palpatine (in episode 3) twisted the good Jedi into being an evil group seeking power through takeover. The good now seems bad.
S01E06 The Shepherd
When Rumple meets with King George. Rumple says he can save his kingdom. George asks him to resurrect his son. Rumple says that’s out of the question he’s dead. Dead is done but George is like, but you said you could save my son? Rumple says, ‘Did I not say there was another?’ that’s a reference to SW: The Empire Strikes back when ghost Obi-Wan says of Luke that he was their last chance to defeat the Empire, and Yoda says, ‘No, there is another.’
Another SW reference comes up again when we meet Shepherd James and his mother, Ruth. What Ruth is wearing, looks very similar to Shmi’s dress in The Phantom Menace.
That whole scene when Rumple shows up to take James back to King George, the dialogue afterwards when SJ is talking with his mother. He asks her, “Why didn’t you tell me?” Luke asked that of Ben when he finally learned that he had a twin, his sister Leia. (SW: Return of the Jedi).
S01E08 Desperate Souls
The first time we saw the original Dark Lord, he reminded me of when we saw young Anakin after he turned to the Dark side in Revenge of the Sith.
Rumple’s desire or drive to find and take the dagger from the Dark one, so he can save his son, Baelfire from the horrors of the Ogre Wars is similar to Anakin’s drive to save Padme from dying in childbirth in Revenge of the Sith. Both think they are doing noble things to save the ones they are love, but both fail to see the consequences of their actions before it is too late. Rumple still lost Baelfire and Padme still died because of Anakin’s actions.
The scene where Rumple kills Zoso, the Dark One without even realizing by killing him, he takes on the Dark Curse. That similar to the conversion scene in Revenge of the Sith, where Anakin has no choice but to turn to the Dark side and serve Palpatine. Both are enslaved.
S01E09 True North
We see the twins motif yet again, since it was mentioned that Ava and Nicholas are twins.
S01E011 Fruit of the Poisonous Tree
When Queen Regina gives her speech, comparing herself to the tree she tends, neither one truly belongs and and neither can leave. That’s sort of similar to young Luke in a New Hope, he wants to leave Tatooine but feels he can’t.
S01E13 What Happened to Frederick
The stranger said that water flows and binds things together…doesn’t that sound a lot like what Ben Kenobi said of the Force to young Luke in Star Wars: A New Hope?
Prince Charming lost his sword. 😀 This is a running gag in Star Wars. Obi-Wan lost his lightsaber when he was fighting with Qui-Gon, Luke lost his lightsaber, and I’m pretty sure young Anakin lost his at one point during the SW prequels.
King George’s guards can’t shoot anything to save their lives. So, are the stormtroopers in SW. (and Red Skull’s henchmen in Captain America).
These probably aren’t all of them, so if I missed any, please post them!

Prince James became royalty because he was adopted by King George while his brother remained a shepherd. That is very similar to Luke and Leia. Luke grew up on Tatoonie as a moisture farmer, while his sister, Leia was raised as a Princess.

the guard (the one with the red helmut) looks like the Emperor’s royal guard from Star Wars.
