*throws something at KFC’s head* I’ll do it. Ummmmm. I’ll put it in the character discussion. It’s a good idea since come Sept we won’t be revisiting the S2 section much.
EDIT
The thread for Swanfire has now been moved to the Character discussion section. Swanfire away, folks!
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 10, 2013 at 11:46 pm #192963MysteryKat25ParticipantAll I will say on this is that MRJ said he feels that Emma is the love of NealFire’s life (she probably is, up to this point especially). He didn’t say he got it from H&K, he didn’t say it was official official, he said that’s how it was in his head when he was filming it. It’s the way the direction was given to film that or whatever additional actorly stuff got him to that point. In his mind, he got into the head of someone who had to let go of the love of his life.
He said in a later interview that he wasn’t painting anybody into a corner but that he still feels there’s certainly a possibility for SwanFire which there absolutely is. Just pointing out the difference. It hasn’t been “confirmed” by anybody official with the authority to confirm that. You can love someone deeply and not be in love with them by the end, especially if a lot of time has gone by in between. They very well may find their way back to each other (and I’ve done this with the Colin interviews too-I do try to play fair and see all angles) but everything an actor says it about how they approached these big emotional scenes and needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
When we see actual evidence that Henry is the product of “True Love” or anything else on the show that spells it out as true love (breaking a curse that can only be undone by true love etc.) then I’ll buy more into it but I don’t think any interviews from anybody confirms anything.
Always remember, even the villains always think of themselves as the heroes and in order to play a character convincingly they all have to believe what they’re doing/saying is the right thing to do.
I’ve noticed that MRJ does tend to speak in interviews as if he’s back in Neal’s headspace and to Neal, Emma is the love of his life. He even said he doesn’t know what will happen down road or if that will work out in the longrun, just at that moment last ep that’s what Neal was thinking when he let go.
Unless MRJ (or anybody – I analyze the interviews with everybody this much, I promise!!) has secret knowledge of the future storylines, which I doubt at least to the extent of you’ll end up with so and so, I won’t believe anything til it is seen on the show and/or explained by H&K which better have some basis on what is actually seen.
I’m pretty sure that all JMO knew last year was that Henry’s dad was Baelfire, Rumplestiltskin’s son. I very strongly doubt that they would ever tell her “and this is who you’re going to end up with: ____” because that’s way too far in advance of the journey. She needed to know who Henry’s dad was because obviously her character knew that information already and just wasn’t revealing it at all yet. There’s no reason for the writers to tell anybody in the cast who is going to end up with whom except for the couples that have already been spelled out. It doesn’t help them get to that point on the show if they know in advance and are playing it up to be set in stone. Also things change along the way sometimes (ie: they originally thought of killing off Charming in the first ep), so even if they planned out certain endings they may have revamped them and/or continue to changes things over time. Any show, especially a good one, will see what it has going for it and can still be surprised and change things up. This happened in Lost when Michael Emerson was supposed to b e around for a 3 episode arc as an other pretending to be Henry Gale to get information and they loved him so much that they ended up bringing that character back and making him a very important part of the show. Can you imagine Lost without a Ben Linus played by Michael Emerson?? I sure can't…
On the very positive side of things, (even though I know I don’t seem that way very often since I feel more compelled to defend the less-popular stuff at times because I believe in it too…) enjoy the SwanFire-dedicated thread! I know I like to hang out in the CaptainSwan one for comfort after rounds of being called delusional in shipper wars (and I like both sides even though I have a preference!). Safe havens that are positive and you don’t feel the need to defend yourself are great. I look forward to popping in occasionally even if only to read and better understand where people are coming from and how they’re handling certain things that I’ve had a problem with so far.

Because in the two minutes it took me to type a response in another thread you composed a mini well written essay and I am beginning to suspect that you have some magical potion that allows you to type faster than the average human.

Rofl because that’s exactly the opposite of how I feel sometimes! Usually by the time I’ve typed out one of my long posts every time I go to view it (to check for proper spoiler tags etc.) there are like…5 more posts!
I like the idea of magical mice though…where can I get some?? Magic potion would be nice too but what would Rumple charge me is the question…do I get a discount for liking him & RumBelle? Cause that would be lovely…
I do tend to type fast and I’m a writer (or trying to be) hence my long, rambling posts sometimes but I notice that if I’m super passionate about something I tend to type faster (I should seriously just get very angry at my novel and I’d have a book in two days, I swear it!). I think in some cases I’m either very upset about something or I’m very insistent on an idea.
In the case of this particular thread….I’m very passionate about the idea of not reading too much into ANYTHING. We’re so close to the finale and super on edge as you’ve mentioned…somewhere, (I’ve lost track now with all the threads going!) and we’re all grasping at every little detail we can get and sometimes people answer in a way that makes sense coming from them and what they know and how they feel about it which is great and gives us something…but we’ve also been led astray too many times. And by “we” I mean ALL of us because everybody has a favorite character / pairing etc. and we’re all looking for answers and every answer we get gives us hope…and then the next one dashes it…and then the next one gives us hope…and then something comes out that completely contradicts it again!
This is a show about hope and we should all certainly have it (and I really am super happy for the SwanFire people that you feel you have gotten some confirmation and have a TON of hope right now – that’s great!). I just worry that because we have a long break coming up, we’ll hold on to something that was said by somebody, anybody that we have a HUGE reason to keep hoping and that can be dangerous.
Personally I love the show overall. I love a lot of the characters, I’m interested in most of their journeys (basically just wipe out GOAT and I’d be happy for the most part), and the only reason I’ve gotten to the point where I’m super passionate about a ship (and most of the time defend that a bit more to play devil’s advocate because there are so many around here who think it’s impossible and I don’t like to rule anything out until necessary…) is because they’ve given me REASON to hope for it.
A lot of that stuff comes from interviews, hints at PaleyFest etc and it’s a dangerous thing because you’re essentially being told “we see what you see, things are set up a certain way, keep watching, you might really like what we have coming up if you like this ship, yada yada yada” and say, well I guess it’s safe because there are hints that we’re on to something! Only to be slapped in the face with the next bout of interviews etc promoting a conflicting ship because they get more screentime and really, in some cases, it’s whoever is on screen right then is a favorite – that happens all the time, especially when somebody can be legitimately torn in a triangle, I do that sometimes watching various things when the screentime is way more balanced). It goes back and forth, it really does and we’re ALL left holding on to whatever quotes we can get our hands on to backup whatever is that WE want to see (which is different for everyone).
It’s easy to twist the quotes and make it seem like Emma ends up with just about anyone! They set her up so perfectly to fit into a fairy tale environment with her story that there were compelling arguments to be made for just about every guy that’s ever hit on her, even if they ended up disappearing rather quickly and we’re now down to two (I don’t think they’ll add any more than that, although you never know. The fandom is already divided up enough as it is!). Didn’t they hint at one point that August could be a potential suitor? And they set up the two FTL kids, separated, brought back together storyline for them too until they changed directions and then said they were more like siblings. Things change.
I just don’t want ANY Oncer to feel like they were lied to, especially when in many cases the people we are getting the information from just DO NOT KNOW! We all have our own viewing filters…imagine being them and having to actually pretend to be that person and believe in everything they’re believing in in that moment. That means thinking like them which can change their viewing filter too.
The way I see it right now is the fandom (the part that cares about SwanFire vs CaptainSwan) are pretty much split 50/50. Somebody, no matter what happens, WILL be upset, but we have been given reason to hope for both outcomes and a lot of that does come from interviews. We just need to take an objective look at everything, even when we are having lots of feelings and desperately need a quote-shaped life raft to hold onto to keep our sanity. It’s better than throwing tantrums later with “they saiddddddddd” and not understanding what just happened.
Truly sorry if that bursts any bubbles, I enjoy quotes just as much as the next person and they do give me hope. I just hope they don’t give me TOO much hope only to pull the rug out from under me, or any other Oncer.

Ditto (and I would hope that’s also something that we can ALL agree on!) I don’t want anything going too quickly. It’s already the end of S2 (ahhhhhh how did that happen?!?) but endgame is a long way off. If anything happens too fast for anybody there won’t be much more story with them more than likely. It’s about the journey, not the destination, and the longer the journey the better! (Not to mention a better payoff in the end…I hope!)
Hmm, guess my mice decided to take a break. Finally had a shorter response for something today! 😉
