Daniel brought up the connection of Oz and Frankenstein in the podcast today. I would love to discuss this further! It seems like a very interesting theory!
Someone on the podcast mentioned how Frankenstein’s last scene was in black and white like how Dorothy’s original land was. This could be a nod to the movie/book or just a dramatic effect for Frankenstein.
Thoughts?

I sorta hope that the Wizard of Oz is only the Wizard of Oz, and not also Frankenstein, but now that I think about it, it could work. We didn’t see Jefferson go to get Victor in this ep. We saw Jefferson happen to run into Regina at just the right time to offer to hook her up with Victor, but later, it turned out that the whole thing was a setup by Rumple to turn Regina into a monster. Maybe Rumple had sent Jefferson to Oz with a shopping list: crystal ball, magical slippers, Wizard. And he brought back 2 out of the 3, though in that initial scene, he was only seen to hand over 1, because it was all part of the ruse to corrupt Regina.

The part where Jefferson and Regina meets Dr.Whale, he was sitting down drawing something which was the Dahlia flower that was in front of him and that flower was from the Wizard of Oz which is named Dahlia Wizard of Oz if you search it on google you can see it (http://www.flora-images.com/picture/DAHLIA-WIZARD-OF-OZ-2537.jpg)
(btw the director of the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie is Victor Fleming http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032138/and the rest of that small flower garden that’s in front of him(which has Dahlias, Blossoms, Banana musa coccinea which is in the middle is almost the same one from this cover photo here from the Wizard of Oz

Aha! Good catch. I was deff not on board with Whale being Franky. But now that he is I REALLY want him to be Oz too. Franky is just not mystical enough for me to be included on this show. So being Oz as well will comfort me as far as Dr Whales character goes.
October 29, 2012 at 3:33 pm #158489youfoundmeParticipantYa I could definitely see Whale being Oz too. And there are a lot of things that point him to being Oz, especially the flowers (great catch Tiago)! Flowers were very important in the Wizard of Oz (the poppies). So this theory is definitely justifiable!
October 29, 2012 at 5:23 pm #158507PheeParticipantI thought the flower looked like a protea…
(Incidentally, we do have flowers in the protea family here in Oz (Australia) though that particular one, the king protea, is native to South Africa.)October 29, 2012 at 5:27 pm #158511snowfallsParticipantOoo! Good catch with the flowers! I totally forgot about the poisonous poppies. 😮
October 29, 2012 at 7:44 pm #158533RumplesGirlKeymasterGood catch with the flowers!
I don’t want him to be Oz as well. The Wizard of Oz holds a very special place in my heart, whereas I never liked the book Frankenstein. So, if they do it, I won’t be thrilled. BUT Jefferson’s lines last night…either total misdirection or we’ve met the wonderful wizard of Oz"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 30, 2012 at 12:19 am #158569tiagoParticipant@Phee wrote:

it does look like a protea too.. um Idk which one it is now.. but I did notice (fully opened dahlias) from that small-ish garden from that episode http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/2366/dahlia3.jpg
I know that there are many different styles/ types of Dahlias and Proteas.
maybe in that garden there are both protea and dahlias, the protea is the one he is drawing (like a small version of the King Protea?)
