ParticipantYet another “almost” fairy tale will make its appearance on the big screen. This time it’s a prequel to L. Frank Baum’s legendary story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It will tell the story of how this self-proclaimed wizard became a citizen of Oz.
Here’s the Trailer, thankfully available also in HD.

ParticipantThat looks really interesting. Thanks for starting this thread and posting a link. I wonder why I haven’t heard of it before now. I would think they would do a lot of publicity for a movie like that.

ParticipantWell, it’s coming out in 2013 … And there is also Dorothy of Oz coming out in 2013 … Oz year, lol. Dorothy of Oz is a computer animated musical, though. Lea Michele (Rachel from Glee) will be voice acting Dorothy. There’s no teaser trailer yet.

ParticipantOkay, Oz the Great and Powerful was just released barely a week ago, but has anyone seen it already?

ParticipantHaven’t seen it yet but hoping to eventually. They had a review podcast of it the other day, should be in the feed / on the website (the first part is non-spoilery, then can shut it off when it gets to the further discussion – they’ll warn you) and it sounds good.
I think it’s probably more a kids movie (unless you’re very into Oz) but from my understanding since they can’t use a lot of the stuff from the original movie they pulled in more things from the books (which is awesome cause I really need to read those) and obviously characters are different because this isn’t the Dorothy story we all know and love.

ParticipantI enjoyed it, though I bet that many hardcore Wicked fans won’t like it as much. It’s beautiful and felt in many ways like a bridge between the 1939 film that everyone knows and the books that I grew up loving to death. (It pays homage to both in myriad ways.)
It’s not the greatest movie ever, but there’s much to love about it, despite what some of the critics are saying. And I was on the edge of my seat quite a bit for it. In a couple places, the 3D was even worth the surcharge.

ParticipantI saw it last Saturday with my friends. We saw it in IMAX 3D. IMAX is nice but 3D, to me only really made a difference in a few scenes. Otherwise, I would have been fine watching in 2D.
There was a scary moment towards the climax, and there was a shrill scream behind us. 😆 I asked my friends later, was that a girl or a boy and I think one of them said it was a boy.
Noticed some neat connections:
The name of the traveling circus Oz works with was called Baum, which was a clear nod to the author of Wizard of Oz.
When Glinda was going over the map of Oz, there were the poppy fields and the Enchanted Forest. -
