Does anybody know of a good cure for a good case of Pack-rat-itis?
My husband and I have been in this house for 15 years, and are moving to a bigger home. I never had any idea of how much stuff we’ve accumulated over that time! We’ve been packing, and packing, and haven’t even made a dent yet!
Here’s the kicker: I have run across things in our attic that should have been donated, given away or in some cases, even thrown away. I am a genuine, bonified pack rat! String, old broken items (mostly decorations) I should have known I’d never get aroung to fixing, clothes that no longer fit (too big), you name it! I ran across a Groilers encyclopedia CD from 1996! Why did I keep that?
I think more of our things will be going to charity, or to the garbage instead of our new home!
Am I the only one out there with this problem?

Stuff people gave us that we just couldn’t let go to “waste” and stuff he acquired from tile and remodeling jobs…and then just junk! Junk mail etc. We moved from a large home into an apartment so we had no choice. Thought I was doing a good job at getting rid of things but when it came down to it, I had to ask myself.. do I really need this and want to keep the clutter in my life?
I bagged up the stuff that still had use in black trash bags so it forced me to take it to goodwill and if I didn’t make time for that it would be easy to throw away. We also had like 5 garage sales. And sold a ton of stuff on craigslist. We probably made $1500 on craigslist in a couple weeks just from junk people had given us that we gladly accepted, haha.
Anyway, I kept keepsakes and stuff from school and growing up. Properly labeled. But it came down to those hard questions when we sat in the middle of the pile of all our junk. And with a bunch of silly decor I had picked up and used but didnt really need or want, I just gave to goodwill. I love thrifting so I had acquired a LOT of cute things I got for cheap. But in the end I realized I wanted a simpler, cozier look instead of nick nacks everywhere. It was hard to do and SO MUCH WORK, but So glad we downsized to an apartment to force us to de-clutter our lives!!Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.

I really have a very limited space and I keep promising myself that whenever I have some free time, I’ll start sorting things out and do, what I like to call, some ‘cataloguing’ – instead of collecting a keepsake, I will take a photo of it (or scan it) and add a few lines and store it on my hard disk. Same with notes, documents etc – it saves so much space!

JUST MAKE sure things you do not want hauled away are labeled or put away…. they will take it too thinking it is something you want to get rid of.
Saves YOU having to haul thinks away…. building supplies are desirable….

How’s this for timing! We move in 2 days. The washer flooded! Wet floor! Thought we’d need to call the plumber, but we fixed the problem. We used every towel and sheet we have in the house to clean up the mess, though. Aaarrghhh!!! I’ll be glad when this is over!!!!! LOL!!! Never, a dull moment!!! 😆
