So…what shall this Maleficent and Merlin ship be should it come true?

Keeper of FelixSomething that really bothers me about this, so we know Merlin is likely Lily’s father but then why was Maleficent mad at King Stefan? Aurora said back in season two, first she [Mal] went after her mother and then she went after her? What was the grudge there? Not getting a wedding invite? I feel like there had to be a bigger story but the writer’s missed it and instead, gave us the epilogue of that story without even giving us the beginning or middle of it.
Okay, here is something I don’t think any of us may have thought of:
PAPA DRAGON WAS THE ORIGINAL DARK ONEWhy, you say? I was looking at pictures of Zoso and Rumpel (is that weird? it sounds weird) and I was just contemplating that maybe with their scaly green skin, the original dark one is somewhat reptilian in its natural form. Then I remembered how Hook called Rump a crocodile. Then it was just a short jump from “maybe the original dark one was some sort giant crocodile human” to “maybe it was a dragon human” to “Maleficent is a dragon human” and thus the connection was built. So theres something to think about, I suppose. Here’s a picture just to see how reptilian they look.

Maleficent wasn’t pregnant until around the time of Snowing, during which Rumple had been the dark one for over a century. Rumple became the dark one by stabbing Zoso, it is also likely this is how Zoso became the dark one by stabbing the dark one before him etc. The original dark one was already a long time dead before Maleficent became pregnant therefore couldn’t possibly be the father.

Hmmmm. I didn’t even think about that. Good point, POM…. I could think of a few solutions but i’d rather not get into the mechanics of dragon mating on this forum xD but hmmm, back to the drawing board for this one. Ive been brainstorming paternity ideas for Maleficent.

This might have been mentioned by someone already, but did Maleficent seem surprised that Lily had the capacity to turn into a dragon? Obviously, I’ve no idea what the genetics of “weredragons” might be, but either the surprise means that without special training it isn’t that easy, or that papa dragon might be more human (or differently “were”) than Mal. Unless I’m misinterpreting Mal’s reaction.

Nope, Lily said “it” happened in Dragon form which is why Mal doesn’t know who the human face is attached to the dragon. “Its a dragon thing”.

I didn’t take it as surprise, personally. Just…astonishment. Like “woah, look at my baby burn down those trees!”. Mal hasn’t seen her child ever and now here she is watching her cause havoc. Shes proud. The only thing I really remember of Mal’s reaction was “She looks just like me!” and not “Holy crap, shes a dragon too?”. I don’t see why she’d be surprised though. Mal is a dragon. She mated with a dragon. It seems simple enough that Lily would be a dragon. Plus, ya know, she hatched from an egg. Mal must have known.

You’re right, that makes sense. I couldn’t quite remember what her sense of “awe” was about, just that it was there — but yes, it’s probably simply that she was seeing her daughter in dragon form for the first time. And obviously their fundamental species-similarities would be a source of delight for Mal. I’m still curious whether Papa Dragon is, like Mal, a humanoid (if he’s Merlin then obviously he is), and if so, whether Mal knew that.

Hmmm. I know that in most legends about Dragons, they have the ability to change shape into humans. But from what we know about Maleficent… it would seem she is just a witch who has the particular ability to become a dragon. I know the actress once called her “half dragon” But 1) Rump, when told Mal turned into a dragon in the flashback, says he thought she “lost that power.” 2) Mal said she couldn’t turn into a dragon because she had “lost the fire” so it would seem it isn’t something that is natural to her and 3) Mal was frequently referred to as a witch and a sorceress. So I’m going to go ahead and say that dragons are one species but Maleficent, having stolen dragon fire (?) gained the ability to change into one herself. So while most dragons are just creatures, I guess some are actual people or magic-users. And apparently Mal had no issue just making tacos with random dragon without ever knowing who it was.
