This flashback added nothing to Hook. He has father issues and was hell-bent on revenge. News at 11! We knew all this. Meeting his father added nothing to it.
Had his father tied into the upcoming Underworld arc, they could have made these flashback significant. He could have sold his soul to Hades, or something. But nope.
Right. When we learned that PapaJones was alive, I thought “oh there’s our connection to the Underworld” but then…nope.

I don’t know where that leads. *shrug*

I still think he’s Arthur somehow, but then I don’t even try to consider the timeline anymore. When Hook’s father was found I was like “hey, he looks like he hasn’t aged.” It didn’t occur to me just how long it had been until they said it. I actually would prefer to always be thinking about the timeline, but … .
December 7, 2015 at 1:50 am #313775KebParticipantI -am- always thinking about the timeline and…yeah, tonight’s flashbacks were not very friendly to it.

And Arthur was already an adult (and married to Guinevere) when the curse hit. So I don’t see how unless we have more time travel, and I don’t think any of us want that! (And time travel is normally like, my favorite thing ever. )
Also, how does “Liam” become “Arthur”?
Oh, shoot! I just thought of something! This idea is definitely going nowhere, but, y’all know what Liam is short for right? William!!! 😮
I’ll just, let that one sink in. 😯

December 7, 2015 at 8:25 am #313798PheeParticipantNo but seriously. What happened to the kid??
He too became a sailor, and rowed a boat to Forgotten Character Island.
The sleeping curse explanation was pretty out there and just plain odd.
It was ridiculous. Father and son just so happened to both end up in situations that allowed them to live for over a century. And apaprently you can completely fall in love with a stranger while you’re comatose and unable to even interact with them. Well alrighty then.
They could have kinda, sorta, maybe made it a bit less ridiculous if when he fell down dead, Regina *poofed* in and *poofed* PapaJones into actually being one of her guards under a cloaking spell to trick Hook. It even would have tied in to present day where Hook cloaked himself as Henry to trick Emma.
December 7, 2015 at 3:40 pm #313837Heart of DarknessParticipantThe whole thing just felt like a bad parody of OUaT. Sleeping curse, really?
And how in the world did Regina even know this guy and where to find him?
December 7, 2015 at 3:46 pm #313838RumplesGirlKeymasterAnd how in the world did Regina even know this guy and where to find him?
Right?! How did she know this was Hook’s father? Did she just randomly bump into Brennan (Hook’s papa apparently) and then keep track of him for “reasons” and then realized Hook was breaking into her castle and said, “omg! This is totally the son of that one guy I met that one time. I must use this to my advantage! I’ll be sure to drop in some dialogue that will resonate with this one-handed dude and then he’s sure to do my bidding! What a perfect plan!”
Clearly that line of dialogue was followed by Regina cackling with steeped fingers and then she is seen petting a white cat, as lighting flashes behind her menacingly.
You know, because there is no complexity to the characters anymore. Just lock, stock, and barrel tropes.

Are you suggesting Will is Hook’s brother?

Sure why not. They are both English and wear leather coats.
