I have no doubt this is an old and cold subject (and if there is another thread discussing it, feel free to link it), but has there been an explanation from K&H or on the show itself as to how multiple generations of people “here” have all known the stories of these fairy tale characters, and yet it would appear that Storybrooke (us) and the Enchanted Forest/Fairytale Land are running on the same calendars? I try to keep up with the timelines and explanations of how who can be where and when and why, and I can even get my arms around the 200-year old Baelfire issue (assuming it is confirmed that he spent some time in Neverland) but this one still escapes me. Even if you throw away the 28-year “frozen in time” period in Storybrooke, it still doesn’t fit. Any “facts” or theories would be appreciated!

My theory: Stories happen again and again. Never quite the same way, but, for example, even within the Once world, Rumple has bartered multiple babies around in similar manners. Cinderella’s story blended with the classic Rumplestiltskin story arc, yet we have every reason to think that Cora’s story ALSO followed that trajectory at some point. People who study fairytales have actually classified them into types; people who study stories have argued that there are as few as twelve or three actual stories and every novel, movie, etc is just a variation of those core stories.

Another theory: Since fate and destiny does seem to exist in this universe, some Seer or something composed some of the stories, and they escaped from other worlds into ours.

Another theory: Time travel. Cuz why not.

Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. Because even stories that have been around for centuries become new again, each everytime that story is told from the beginning.
And there is always some one who is hearing that story for the first time.
