They need someone who can play a someone between the ages of 16-25 convincingly, in my opinion. He just can’t be younger than 16 on the show, it wouldn’t be very menacing.

An example of this would be young voldy in the deathly hallows movie. I do agree that child actors are risky. Also I’m thinking that we won’t stay in NL long since Jared will grow a lot this year … And no one grows up in NL. Maybe just this season.?

That’s true. Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who played 11 year-old Voldemort, was pretty creepy on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but here’s the catch: he never took on adults face to face as an equal. Not even Harry did that in first few books; he showed great bravery in the face of danger, that’s true, but he was very obviously no match for Voldemort back then. Rowling always brought a plot device in Harry’s confrontations with Voldemort that allowed Harry to defeat him without making too much of a mockery out of the villain:
– Lily’s love protection in book 1;
– Fawkes, Gryffindor’s sword and the Basilisk Tooth on Riddle’s Diary in book 2;
– Priori Incantatem from Harry and Voldemort’s twin wands in book 4;
– Dumbledore in book 5.Only in book 7 was Harry portrayed as someone capable enough to take on Voldemort as an equal, and even then yet another plot device was invented to avoid Harry having to resort to the killing curse to end Voldemort.
More to the point, Harry Potter and Peter Pan (in his traditional portrayals) are heroes; we’re meant to see Voldemort and Captain Hook as monsters for even considering killing young boys. In ONCE, Peter will play the role of the VILLAIN; having bastions of goodness like Charming or Snow attack a pre-teen would give the wrong vibe to the audience, tarnishing their characters.

He has a good look for Peter, but he’s 34 now, I’d hope for someone at least 10 years younger.
I know he’s that old in real life, but my point is he has a younger look to him that it might not matter so much on camera. He looks younger than the guy who played Felix, and that actor is like 25 after all. And we had Jennifer Morrison and MRJ play their characters 10 years younger than they were supposed to be in “Manhattan”, not to mention Lana Parilla playing an 18 year old or so version of Regina. I agree overall that an older actor who can play a younger character well would be better than casting someone younger, since this role requires major acting abilities. Not that a child actor couldn’t handle the role, but convincingly playing that type of character is asking a lot. Plus, as someone has probably said before, child labor laws in terms of limited filming time per day are a pain to deal with.

Actually, we all forgot about this in this discussion! 😆 And we should’ve remembered, it’s the reason Jared spends several episodes doing only one or two scenes. 🙂

Hmmm, it seemed to me that Jared Gilmore got a LOT more screen time in S1. He’s basically had less than 10 minutes of screen time in each episode of S2. That seemed weird to me.
As for Peter, I hope they cast someone who isn’t in his 20s. I think it’s much more convincing for someone like Dylan Schmid (age 14) to play Peter. Yet, probably it’ll end up being an actor who is about 18 but looks to be about 14. I actually think the younger Peter Pan looks, the more eery it is for him to be evil. It’s just so unexpectedly creepy and forbidden, kind of like a child vampire.

May 17, 2013 at 7:04 pm #195155RumplesGirlKeymasterIf they could get another child actor the caliber of Dylan, that would be nice, but I think Slurpeez is right. They’ll get someone who is about 18-20, but can pull of a 14-16 yr old really well.

May 17, 2013 at 8:18 pm #195164thebassgalParticipantA couple suggestions for 20-something actors who could play Peter:
Matt Lanter:
Chace Crawford:
