So I was rewatching and came across what I believe to be a massive plot hole.
Regina made a different kind of locator spell which connects the the magic of two saviours so that they could find Aladdin, correct?
However it shouldn’t have worked since Aladdin used the scissors to cut his path as the Saviour. Like Jafar said, using the scissors makes him powerless. So he doesn’t have any magic.
Is there anyone else who thinks that this is a plot hole? Or do you believe that there is more to the story (E.g – Aladdin didn’t really use the scissors or Aladdin really was the skeleton and this is someone pretending to be him)?

Either it’s a massive plot hole or its what @thedarkonedearie suggested elsewhere– “Aladdin” is really Jafar and somehow he’s able to present himself as having Savior powers.

There is something just a little bit awkward about this SB version of Aladdin, and I can’t put my finger on it — so maybe.
If that’s a plot hole, it’s a massive one (not just a continuity problem or retcon, but actually a total worldbuilding screw up). Surely, someone in the writers’ room would have picked up on it.
What if the shears actually don’t do anything, just like the Diamond in the Rough I don’t think did anything — it was just there to reveal Aladdin’s saviorhood. Maybe using the shears doesn’t actually do anything, but simply helps the person channel their wish to be rid of their powers? In that case it wouldn’t work on anyone but Emma, and Emma would have to use them herself. Dunno.
October 26, 2016 at 8:08 am #329295MattParticipantIt could simply be that the spell is able to detect that he has at some point been a user of Saviour magic. A bit tenuous, but hey – what isn’t with this show?

I believe there is more to the story. I dont think its a plothole, but possibly a clue to this–
(-The dead corpse in the crypt (which also had the scarab) was dead “Savior Aladin” This is also the reason Emma was led directly to the dead corpse in the crypt and not directly to the other Aladin, who was hiding in the back of the crypt. The locator spell that Regina made was supposed to lead Emma to the Savior- and thats what it did, it led her to the dead Savior Aladin….and this other Aladin, who is still walking around is the Dark/bad/some-type-of-evil part of Aladin.-) copied from different thread
I have a more thought out theory on this in this thread-
October 26, 2016 at 11:55 am #329300MattParticipantOne other thing it could be is that Aladdins magic is somehow absorbed into the shears? It’s not really something that I have thought about, but if you cut your destiny away from yourself what happens? Where does it go? Do the Savior powers just dissolve into thin air?
October 26, 2016 at 2:39 pm #329304Jiminy’s JournalParticipantSo basically, if I understand this right:
1. Jafar turned the Oracle into a bird.
2. Aladdin turned her back into a human.
3. Jafar confronted Aladdin, and turned the Oracle back into a bird, then a staff.
4. Jafar killed Aladdin
5. Jafar impersonated the Oracle.
6. Somehow, the Oracle got free. Jafar killed her.
7. Jafar impersonated Aladdin.
Do I understand this theory right?
October 26, 2016 at 3:49 pm #329307TheWatcherParticipantWhat is savior magic? Isnt that just light magic? Wouldnt the locator spell just connect to anyone who uses light magic? Didnt regina herself use light magic? Dont the fairies use light magic? I dont think savior magic is a thing.
Idk.
I think its just ye again one of those things the writers dont think we are intelligent enough to catch.

Is this again one of those things that only makes sense in my head…. seriously I think the theory I came up with makes a lot of sense…

It’s not a matter of sense. It’s a matter of “are the writers thinking as deeply and comprehensively as you.”
The answer to that is no. Pretty much 99.9% of the time. Could you be on to something? Sure. Do I think there is an even greater chance that it’s a plot hole/something totally different that we can’t think of because it hinges on some sort of plot device we’ve never heard of or considered? Heck yes.
